On Friday April 14th, Dimitri released his Riffle Fan to the Public on YouTube:

As happy as I am that he did release it (because I'd always wanted too learn it), I can't help but feel Dimitri was a bit Cheated. A couple months ago (not sure exactly when), Jarek 1:20 of Disturb Reality Collaborated with AnnaD to bring a tutorial of the same move to YouTube. Personally, I (having never known where the Riffle Fan Came From) clicked on this video, and watched it. However, when I read the comments and learned that the move was not a Erdnase level free move, and actually still belonged to someone (Dimitri). For that reason, and the fact that Dimitri was never credited, I never practiced the move.

Due to the Popularity of that Video, I think Dimitri was somewhat forced to release his own updated Riffle Fan. My complaint is not with the fact that Jarek released his video, but in the fact that he should have known better. The Dosturb Reality YouTube Channel is pretty popular for people just getting into magic. I even found his stuff interesting, until I found better ways to learn from (Eg. Books, Communities, even other Channels like The 52kards YouTube Channel is much more helpful because not only does Asad go in-depth with his explanation, he works on the moves themselves, credits the right people, and just has more experience overall (since magic is his life now, where as Jarek has stated that Magic is just a hobby for him)).

Jarek 1:20 must know that his channel has a lot of influence. Furthermore, He and AnnaD should both also know where the Riffle Fan comes from. Thus, I don't think it was right for them to post that video in the way that they did.

Thoughts?

Asad sometimes doesn't credit the things he teaches in the video and puts the credits in the description box below. Same with Jarek. Dimitri is credited in the description for the riffle fan. Both their channels (52kards/DisturbReality) are no different to me. Does that make it okay to teach his stuff? Up to you to decide. We're beating a dead horse at this point trying to talk about it. The magic community consensus seems to be: no it is not okay.

First off - In the first few weeks that it was released, there was no credit in the description box. This is why there was so much controversy., and he probably just edited the description box later. I checked multiple times.

Secondly - Asad doesn't publish material that is not released in an older, popular magazine or book, and when he does he asks permission. Furthermore, he generally states "I'll leave links to the research in the description", which I feel like it is good enough if the move is a general slight that we can add to our repertoire (like palms, false shuffles, etc.). Now, if he were to be publishing tricks like (for example) something from Jay Sankey's "In a Flash" without asking permission, it would be a different story. Also, the stuff he teaches is more slights, technique, and ethic, not tricks, so he isn't really "exposing" anything. If he does publish a trick, it is to show a slight, and he makes up most of the ones he teaches.

Third - You are 100% right about the fact that there is no point in arguing about this.
