The Destiny Effect

A few days ago, on a Red Bull high, I had what is probably my best idea to date. I call it The Destiny Effect, and here is the effect.

A deck of cards in it's case is in full view. A spectator MERELY THINKS of any card they want. They never name it, not once. They think of it. The cards are fairly removed and spread, each and every card visible. The spectator is asked to remove their thought-of card from the spread. This card is tabled, and immediately upon doing so, the deck is turned over and it is reveal that on the back of every single card, there is a different name written boldly across. David, Megan, Sarah, Brian, and more. Their thought of card is fairly turned over. The spectator's own name is written across the back.

No forcing, no nail writing, no gimmicks, no kidding.

What do you think? Any history, ideas, thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Michael

Sounds good if it's as clean as it sounds in the description. Using the same concept I'm sure you could make pretty much anything appear on the card - maybe a thought of number, date of birth, whatever.

If you wish to discuss the effect more in private, let me know.

Yes you could, definitely... this premise, although not really explored much, HAS been explored before and this is my approach. And yes, it really is as clean as it sounds... at least I hope it looks that way... THEY think of a card. THEY remove it. It is tabled. The cards are shown and finally the card on the table is turned over by the spectator and it has their own name on it. The deck is examinable, but admittedly the card is not.

Oh yes, and I have been using this for at least three days performing it at least 5 times a day... all of the reactions have been amazing... they range from unbelievable freak-outs to stunned silences. It always hits hard, at least so far. Some other magic names have looked it over as well and have given it a thumbs-up.

i already have a deck that does this
except it only works on people named phil
im sure youre thinking of using the exact same principle
if so then it is _completely_ impractical

if i could custom this i would leave the other cards as normal cards
instead of putting other names on them
and instead of putting phil on their 'card' i would put 'i knew you would pick this one'
this would make a far superior effect to the one you described
largely because it would actually be practical

Not at all... no Phil Deck, yet it is still totally practical. I use it numerous times every day and it does wonders... amazing reactions and impossible magic.

i would definitely like to see this trick
if it is as good as you describe then it is quite good
phil deck came to mind right away since you can do the same effect to a guy named phil heh

A video would be nice. This does sound pretty interesting though; if the trick is exactly how you described it.

Question: what if the name of the spectator is also one of the names on the other cards? Then there'd be 2 "chosen" cards? Don't know how your method works but can you do with only 52 cards/names to "choose" from?

Anyway, nice idea there. Funny how you got that idea on a Red Bull high. Kinda reminds me of the Bud Light commercials. Not that I drink, but you know, I like those ads. :D

Michael, being the trustworthy person you are, I'm 100% sure this is legit!

im calling shenanigans
there is a crazy amount of names
you'd have to definitely ask them in advance and write it down
if you want them to think of any card
then you have to write their name down on all of them
otherwise you have to force it
if youre writing it down on a lot of them
then you are going to need a phil deck to still show some with other peoples names on them
which you said you don't use
so im calling shenanigans on your description
its incomplete

As much as I hope that your effect is truly exactly how you've described it...I'd have to agree with Aos.

There is no 'theoretical' way of performing the effect to exactly how you've described.

UNLESS, you've come up with real magic- a WHOLE other story...:p I'd have to say that the effect is indeed quite misleading.

I would love to see this effect on video! It sounds amazing and I have no idea how you could do it. Maybe I should get a pack of red bull... lol. Seriously though this effect could probably sell on t11 or E if it is exactly like it sounds!
