Is video magic/online magic real magic? Do you guys consider it legit?

"OMG, I always thought that was just camera tricks!" - Gen Z Spectator.

Pick # between 10 and 49 or 52, deal that # of cards; add its digits, remove that # of cards. Magician tries to I.D. this randomly chosen card.

So this is based on the 10 to 20 force which was first published by Billy O'Connor in "After the Four Ace Trick" in The Magic Wand, June-September 1935. That force is most likely much older and not invented by O'Connor. The 10 to 20 force is used in "The Four Card Force" in Hugard and...

    Dealing with "inquisitive" spectator

There are two issues here. The first is a matter of control and the second is a matter of challenge. The matter of control is that you most likely are not acting as if you are in control. They way you should present magic is to demonstrate that you are in control. If you are nervous or of...

Erdnase and Expert At The Card Table

Agreed. It was pretty much forgotten before Vernon's promotion of it. I guess the appeal for me is the historical value. I agree that there are better sources to learn from.

    Rough/Smooth question

Generally, yes. I've done some where I just do the middle of the card and found it isn't really worth the effort. Your post looks fine to me.

    Performance Help

For Out of this World, I use a method based on a combination of John Armstrong's and Eugene Burger's handlings. I also use postcards based on Chris Philpott's French Postcards - but mine have more Rated - G, audience friendly pictures. For a presentation with a deck of cards, I would do...

    Performance Help

It is difficult to give advice without seeing a performance. Feel free to post a video or even send one to me in a direct message or "Conversation." That would allow for more helpful advice. That said, let's begin... Close up magic is a conversation. Conversation is interactions - questions...

    Trying to identify a trick

Alright... guess #2 - "Calling the Cards" which is the first effect in Scarne on Card Tricks. Magician spreads the deck around in a wide pile on the table. The spectator points to a card and the magician names it (the magician can name it first and then the spectator points to the card). The...

    Rough/Smooth question

I haven't used Neo Stick, so I can't comment on that. I'm a Testor's Dullcoate guy. Two light coats gets me to the perfect grippyness. If stuff slides too much, one coat gets it back to new. Trying something else as a spray and will let you know how it goes.

Classic pass and the right ring finger (some advice please)

Exactly. The right hand's motion should mimic squaring the deck. Your fingers don't do anything funky when you square the deck.

    Trying to identify a trick

My first guess is that it is "The Betting Card Trick" from Scarne on Card Tricks p. 74. A card is selected and returned to the deck. The magician (or spectator) deals off cards face up with the spectator to saying nothing if they see their card. It can be varied so the spectator holds up the...

Forums where it's OK to talk about secrets regarding effects?

There isn't any place where you can discuss secrets openly. You can ask for advice on certain techniques like, "what are different ways to move a card from the bottom to the top of a deck" (overhand shuffle) or "what force can you recommend that is done in a spectator's hands" (203rd force)...

Best free (YouTube) and affordable purchased videos teaching cardistry, coin magic etc. fundamentals and self-working tricks?

Aaron Fisher teaches a number of slights on YouTube but doesn't put them in context of magic effects. However, BEWARE - there are a lot of YouTube videos that don't convey all the minor nuances or do things incorrectly. Roberto Giobbi has a DVD to accompany Card College 1 and 2 that cover most...
