I think it's a different approach. It lets people be featured on their main website, and not a category such as The Wire. Plus, you can submit gimmicks. It seems more like a submission that you'd find on any publisher's site. And it's funnier, too: AND, you get a cool "magitar"...

Maybe it's just me, but I've known how to light a "special" type of match with my fingers for a long time. He says it can be ANY match; can it really?

It's a neat color change, but do you have any uses for it? Since it's very restrictive, as the card that changes in below another one, you would need to provide a context to use the move. Most people wouldn't have one in mind, and they would be less likely to purchase it.
