20 minute routine

Hi everyone,

I'm having a restaurant gig which is going to be more as a "stand up" show. It's planned to last about 20 minutes, and I thought I'd get your opinion on what effects you would perform. I'm interested in anything from card magic to mentalism. Here are some examples:

1. Ambitious card routine
2. Cap through bottle (perfect at a restaurant)
3. I've got some fire magic set up as well.

Best wishes,
Ryan

Anything with fire really technically needs to be approved by the Manager or Owner because sometimes they have to have permits for open flame and such. Just something to look into.

What Rick said about the fire stuff. In some cities you have to have a special permit for the fire on top of the place your are performing. You might also have to show the Fire Marshall what you will be doing. They also will want to make sure that someone has fire suppression close at hand. That is what I had to go though just to shoot some fire out of my hands at a Halloween party a few years back.

There are many of us here who say it over and over, but look at something other than cards. If you really want to do cards do something other than a ACR. Look at something like Lonnie Chevrie's card and animal trap Or his eleven card trick. Ropes play really well to a large group. I have seen some very entertaining rope stuff that last for close to ten minutes and it doesn't feel like it drags on.

It's fine if you do card magic, just treat it as a closer. Do things like Sponge balls, copper silver/etc and then the last/final thing they see is something like 51 to pocket/card to wallet/etc. This way you are treating everything else as a vehicle for your card magic and they aren't feeling like you are over saturating them with nonstop card magic.
