Any skill tips on the following:

First off, I just want to say hi! I'm new here @ theory 11. I recently got into cards in a very strange way. But what i really opened this topic to just ask some opinions on a few things:

Carnahan Fan (now I dont know if this is ok to talk about, so kindly delete it if it isnt) I know Dave and Dan patented it, but I obviously can't ask them questions directly I was wondering. when you all do the carnahan fan..how do you get such nice spreads? Every time i do, my fan is less than 180* and its completely white. None of the pips show! I must be doing something wrong. i watched the trilogy video over and over, but i just can't seem to pinpoint it. I am using regular Bikes--they are fairly new, they thumb fan really well so i know they arent clumpy.

Lepaul spreading...i have watched tons of videos.. including dave and dans, but i just can't get the cards to pop off my fingers, they come off very sporadically.. and in bunches.. any ideas on how to smoothen the springing?

Welcome to the forums mate, if you need anything I am a pm away.

On topic, the carnahan fan takes practice along with a lot of moves here, At first you will get it that way, just practice some more and you will begin to see some improvements, also try to do it with newer cards, they spread better...

And about the lepaul spread, just try to release one card at a time, you can also use your thumb as a initial guide, with practice im sure you will get it...

try posting things like this in the cardistry forum, Im sure you will get a lot more help there.

try the carnahan fan with your other hand to get pips to show (if thats the problem)

Welcome To The Forums man.

The Carnahan fan's a little funny. If no pips are showing, i'd take a guess that you're doing it in the right hand instead of left. I say that, because if you thump/pressure fan a deck in your right hand, same thing happens. It takes practice to get a nice spread on it. If you're doing it the right way, it'll probably just take some time for your hand to get use to it.

I switch hands and my left hand carnahan fan gives me pips! its not a nice fan but i see the pips lol. why is that? is it too much pressure on my right hand? I usually thumb fan with my right hand grip w/ my left ( i am righty)

As for lepaul.. no luck yet.. just keep clumping still haha. so much for hours of practice.

Is there a way to post a video here and maybe have people point out the flaws?

fans in the left hand show pips (the pips are on that side) and fans in the right hand are blank, being there is nothing there. that would be why. :]
and just practice. a LOT. remember the cliche, "practice makes perfect". this is so so true when it comes to flourishing and magic.

haha, don't feel stupid. i have my share of "duh" moments as well.
also, keep doing the fans in the right hand as well as the left. when you can do fans in both hands, that's awesome. i started out doing fans in the right hand as well first. i don't know why, haha. but yeah, it looks very good when you can achieve a blank fan (right hand) as well as a pips fan (left).

the buck brothers would practice like 10 hours a day.. that's how they make it look so easy, lol.

Although I can't find an earlier referance at this point in time, I KNOW for a fact that the Buck twins didn't originate that fan. They probably just made it well known among the younger generation right now.

For starters I was trying to do it years ago when I was a young teenager and I only did so because I saw some other guy do it and I thought it looked cool.

Steer, or Morg do either of you know the credits on this move?

Both moves are things which you should expect to spend upwards of a month at least on, so keep practicing. Sometimes, it just takes a certain amount of blinding fiddling in the dark to get some moves. There aren't really any magical secrets that'll suddenly make the flourishes accessible to you, except practice.
