Apology and request

Hey everyone, first I want to say I'm sorry for being gone so long. I know I wasn't a major contributer to the forums and I doubt most of you knew I was gone. Anywhooo, hopefully I'll be back on more often and can help out any way I can.
Secondly, I need some advice. I'm going to ask my local Mellow Mushroom pizzeria if I can do magic there as a part time job. Jason Michaels, a friend of mine and probably some of you as well, performed there for a long time before pursuing other options. I think I have a good chance of getting the gig, and in case I do, I'll be limited to when I can perform. Jason did it on every Friday night I believe. As a full time high school student, in addition to play rehearsal on the weekdays, I have very little chance for free time and hang out with my girlfriend, other friends, going to sporting events, ect. Thus, I don't want to give up every Friday night that I have. My mom requested doing it one weekend per month (so one Friday/Saturday combo a month) to still have performance time as well as free "high schooler time". I was wondering what your take on this would be? I'm asking primarily those who have performed professionally in this kind of situation.

Also, how much should I charge, or just hope that tips will work? Mellow is a bit pricey, so I don't think people will be willing to spend extra money on a teenage magician.
Again, this is all only IF I get the gig.

Thanks!

Jacob

If I were you, I will charge 75 dollars for 3 hr. If the restaurant can't afford you, then you can lower your price. But that's me, what you really need to do is talk to Jason Michaels ask him how much he charge the restaurant, then you will charge the restaurant the same price. By doing this, it will benefit you both.

Private gigs like bday party, etc. about 150 dollar for an hour for the cheapest.

i would explain that i was a highschool student, and im trying to make some money for (what ever reason) i try to pull the college card, because when i do magic, all the money is going toward my college education, and lots of ppl appreciate that fact, now if you rnt going to college then dont use that excuse. though magicians are known to lie haha, we should be honest when we can be.
but yea i would charge like 75 a night. and doing it once or twice a month would be a neat thing for the pizza place, make a special day you know.
well good luck with that and i hope u get the gig.

Alright, this is my first thing even close to a professional gig, so is 75 not too high for a first timer?
EDIT: I have emailed Jason about this, but I havent heard from him yet.

On the dates you can perform ask yourself would you be willing to dedicate more time, less? I had a magician "acquaintance" working at a Boston pizza and he ended up getting fired because they just didn't have need for him and in the end he just ended up being a nuisance to people trying to enjoy their dinner. Ask yourself if you would think that they would need you? How often would they need you? And if you could fit that into your schedule. Best of luck!

Thats a good way to evaluate it, thank you. Every time my friend and I would go to see Jason, we kind of followed him around the place lol(he knew we did magic) and every audience loved him. It's possible Mellow Mushroom has missed having an entertainer there, who knows? Thanks for the good wishes everyone!
