you practice by going out and doing it , you may look pretty dumb a few times, but belive in yourself and that it will work and that they will go down, and they will. also use set pieces to see how suggestable they are before attempting a induction if you are afraid of failing. But the only real way is to get out there and do it

Practice on family members and friends, I have several friends I practice magic on so that if I do mess up I know they won't disclose anything that shouldn't be. And if you do mess up during a performance, who cares, just be honest and say, hey I messed up. Best of luck

One major tip is this: do not have any doubt in your mind. Don't approach them saying it may not work or don't worry if it doesn't work. You have to make them believe that this will work 100% of the time. You truly need to have complete confidence in yourself. That will make your job so much easier.

oh this really encourages me to go out and practice\perform :(
That was an instant induction called "Zap", which I definitely wouldn't suggest to a beginner. Don't worry, you won't be throwing people around like that, haha.

Just take it slow. Like on the DVD, start with the set pieces, and go from there. If it doesn't work, that's okay. You can bail, knowing you at least gave them the enjoyment of the set pieces (which WILL work), and the fun of attempting hypnosis. They likely know that hypnosis doesn't work on everyone, or you can hint at that ahead of time (to give yourself an out).

As for practicing...practice your patter. You should have some stock phrases (provided in the DVDs/books, or made up yourself given the ideas on the DVDs/books) at your disposal, ready to say at a moment's notice, given the circumstances you find yourself in. Practice those, over and over again, until you can fall back on them without even thinking. This is why I like The Manchurian Approach...you'll notice that even when explaining the inductions/set pieces/etc, he knows exactly what to say, and has some stock lines ready at any moment. He almost seems to throw out the lines without even thinking, reflexively. It comes from practice.

Speaking of practice...when you feel comfortable, try it out on real people. If you live in a decent sized city, you can go out and find people you'll never see again and try it on them. It's not like you'll have to face them everyday (like friends), so it's not as big of an issue if you mess up, or if it doesn't work.

Side note: For practicing the patter that I use (when writing new patter), I practice on my girlfriend. I can't hypnotize her, but I get her to play along (or act as though it doesn't work, given what I want to practice), thus allowing me to practice my patter in all sorts of situations (positive AND negative situations). After that, it's off to practice on random strangers.

Although I'm only a few months in, it's definitely been quite fun thus far, and it truly gets easier the more you perform. :)

And just another quick question, when i'm trying to hypnotize someone and i'm done with the set pieces, and now doing the induction, what if when i say sleep they don't go into a trance. Then what would YOU say in this type of situation ... ?

...umm, you should be asleep right now, I have no mentalism background so I am no help, I'm a card man, though I am looking towards mentalism (if you don't mind me asking, if you do I will absolutely remove this) what mentalism things would you suggest to someone that is just starting, literally no back ground in mentalisn, what would you suggest for hem to jump from?

A good piece of advice is not to rush a command. I accidentally started a command when the person was under and could not help her. She laughed for 30 min straight.

Anyway, when you fail then say that this does not work with everyone but the actions you go through actually make them feel better and relaxed, so say that they feel much better now.

Mikk..

Hey man, I know the feeling of just starting out as a hypnotist...Ive actually worked with ZAP as my fist hardcore method. Even tho there are some dangers with it, I personally don't recommend it for beginners cuz you can get sued. On the other hand its very powerful material, and answering your question....If it doesn't work...it doesn't...just merely explain that this is either an experiment, that possibly you have an uneasy or apprehensiveness attitude towards being hypnoed....meaning even tho they say "yes" to be hypnoed...if they conflict with themselves internally your chances of success are slight slim. Now back to ZAP, I worked out a method so I don't use the method of tugging on the arm, I either perform it using their shoulder (one or both at the same time), if wearing a jacket...i gently but firmly tug in the center of both sides where the zipper teeth are. Once again, I try not to perform hypno right away, I start off always with doing some magic to ease up the crowd, pick a suitable host that I have a good feeling for..and slowly go to that person and interact some more using magic. This approach for me has increased my chances of success, because doing magic and interacting helps build a bond of trust. Just start off with family and friends, then try using my formula and keep doing it over and over to random people, and my success rate at this moment is 70- 80%.
