Paul Harris's Art of Astonishment, Volume 1. Great book. Great effects. Great value, less than $1 per effect because there are around 50 effects for $35.

Even if you find 2-3 effects out of a book you are ahead of the game.
I'm a big fan of Arthur by Chris Wiehl, it's right on the $35 price point though.
It's a card trick that everybody hasn't seen before. With the right handling you could do some additional tricks. Not examinable, though if you can manage a switch, then you're golden.
