Hello Theory11,

I'm looking for some ideas on scripting the routine, Blank Night by John Archer who was on Penn and Teller Fool us. For those who don't know, here is the trick he had provided...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLHgr-2DobM

I have the method and the envelopes, however, I'm in need of ideas, inspiration for the type of presentation I want to present. I don't want to use the same presentation John had use. I'm new a bit to comedy magic so, coming up with a funny act I'm a bit slow at. Normally, I would go on stage, play music and present my show without saying anything. But, I really want to present Blank Night, some how come up with a comedy act.

I'm just looking for some ideas. Any ideas, suggestions, advice, etc. is greatly appreciated!

I reccomend for your first several performances going off the script Archer used, or a variation thereof - there's a lot of jokes he uses that are absolutely hysterical and it would be amiss not to use them.

The more you perform the trick, the more you'll get a sense for how it works and the patter you can use and you'll start to develop your own variations of the script. The more you do it, the more original it'll get!

I would agree - if you're just starting out, there's certainly nothing wrong with using the presentation provided with the trick. Get comfortable first with performing the effect, feeling out the beats in the patter, and then you could craft your own presentation. It could be as simple as writing something else on the envelopes - or going with a different presentation with all blank envelopes.

My other advice would be to watch as much stand up comedy as you can, to get a feel of what type of comedy you like. Then try to adapt that style to your act. Good luck!

Thank you! It is better if I can use my own material for this trick, but I don't have a whole lot. I was not sure if it would be ok to use his presentation for now until I can present my own material.
