Hello people! I'm just curious. What book or dvd would you recommend on Self Working Card Magic? Thanks a lot!

Download Jason Englands 1on1, "What to read". You'll receive a lot of information.

I don´t like the term 'self-working' as nothing in Magic is really self-working, but if you´re looking for books with strong tricks that require little to no sleight-of-hand there´s the Card College light/lighter/lightest series and the classic 'Scarne on Card Tricks'.

Clearly we've been spoilt by Google because most people seem to find using even that a chore...

Type in 'self working card magic books' and you'll get tons. Some will even have really imaginative names like 'Self Working Card Magic' and can be bought for a few quid. Anything be Karl Fulves is a safe bet. Then buy them and read them. If some of them are no good then so be it. I could recommend books to you, but what's good for me might not be good for you. The only real way to find anything of any worth is to put in the effort yourself.

This constant recommending of 'good' or 'the best' books or DVDs is why everyone and their mothers are doing the same damn tricks, and why said tricks are being exposed all over YouTube.

Right rant over, but seriously, use Google, or Amazon.

I have to agree with Rev on this one, when i first got started in magic there were no
magic sites out there and no one to recommend books or dvd's so i bought what ever i
could find. and no joke i have well over 300 books on magic some are crap some are great
but either way i did learn ALOT.

Exactly. I probably fall into the age bracket of you typical iMagician (a term I'm hoping will catch on) in that I'm only 25, but I started learning magic seriously about 15 years ago. We never had the internet in my house until I was 18, so the first 8 years of my magical learning was based on saving up my pocket money and then getting my mum to buy me books over the phone from magic catalogues (remember those?). No instant downloads, demo videos or YouTube. You bought it based on the description in the catalogue. I bought some trash I've never used, but at least I know what i do use was gained through my own exploration and hard work. Plus, just buying the 'recommended' stuff is no way to become fully versed in your chosen area. By reading and experiencing some of the rubbish out there yourself, you will learn what DOESN'T work, which is just as important to know as what DOES work.
