Derren Brown suggestibility

Hey guys, I've been branching away from my Magic for the past few months now and started studying Body Language, Kinesics etc and I would like to start learning subliminal suggestion, eg like Derren Brown does.

For example if i wanted someone to choose a certain shape, i may say something like this...... Okay I want you to think of a shape, any shape in your mind, square, when i say go, write down your choice.

Obviously that's very simple and basic but you get my point, i was hoping someone could lend me some advice and point me in the right direction of some books I could advance my studies. Thanks!

His presentation might suggest that he is using body language or sublimminal influence, but usually he is sticking to sure fire methods, a lot of which can be found in thirteen steps to mentalism

The Jinx.

Probably contains around 80% of Derren's material.

To paraphrase Brad, magicians once again prove themselves to be easier to deceive than laymen.

As others have said Derren's work is mostly presentation rather than the actual methods. As for the real method of psychologically forcing something look into Banachek's PS1. If you were after something based on suggestion Kenton Kneppers miracles of suggestion is a good start. For a good start to what mentalism really is you already know where to look

The Jinx is a collection of the magazine, The Jinx. Which was published by Annemann for a while.

HaHa! Sorry to get a chuckle out of this. Welcome to the world of mentalism...where the pseudo-method is often the biggest form of misdirection their is. I've only been studying mentalism for about 4 or 5 months and I have already discovered that telling a spectator how you accomplish your "mind stunts" is often the best way to steer their attention away from an ugly billet switch. The methods are often quite simple, the presentation might take a lifetime to master. Good luck on your search.

It is THE magazine for mentalism. 151 issues, over 7 years. More than a while. If you didn't know this, in my honest opinion you are not nearly ready for the study of mentalism, and will not find much of worth in the Jinx. It is considered by many masters in the craft to be the most important publication in the history of mentalism.
