I often have dry hands. It is starting to get on my nerves. I try to rub them but the hands become dry after a minute. Often i cant do the classic color change or when i palm cards they dont stay firmely in the palm. Any tips or suggestions? How can i control it?

This is a quick fix if you are needing some moisture during a performance. A lot of guys will simply swipe their finger down the side of their nose if their fingers are too dry to do a pinky pull down or a sleight using their thumb.

The oil on your nose will help act as lubricant.

As far as a long term fix...I would think there has to be some moisturizer products out there that you could apply daily to help. There is a name of a product, but the name escapes me right now, that bank tellers and other workers use who handle lots of paper to be able to grip items. Maybe someone can post the name....as I am not sure.

I did hear about that in a different thread on dry hands. From what I heard there someone had tried that and it didn't so much help with the moisture as it did just make there hands excessivley sticky. I'm sure if you Search through some threads than you will find some helpful stuff.

Dry hands are a pain aren't they... I don't have them but many friends do.
As said before... your own.... oil works quite nicely... from your face. Sounds nasty but yeah it works nicely. and you cant use it on the spot so.... that works.
There are also Manipulation Lotions out on the market, you might want to give that a look.
And there is also a lotion called Sortwik? or something of the sort. Its meant to give your hands a clean but tacky feel? Never used it but heard alright stuff.
I would go with the manipulation lotion as that has had the best feedback so far.

I usually suffer from sweaty hands but there are times when my hands are too dry after washing them.

I use a product that Martin A. Nash used during his performances. Its called Sortkwik. You can get it at any office supply store.

its works and dosent affect the cards.

SortKwik. Use just a little bit and it'll moisturize your hands. You can find it Office Depot or OfficeMax or Staples.

How much is this SortKwik, and how big is it?

I get sweaty hands often, and need to get them dry, so I use bar soap since it's got a high pH. I rarely use lotion, to be honest.

If you've got pretty dry or sweaty hands, is it useful?

With Gerard Way
I was the one with the other thread

I was the one with the other thread and now it is weird but I just rub my hands on my jeans and eventually my hands do what I want them to. I have also learned to ignore my hands.

Think of it this way: It is better to have smooth dry hands than very sweaty ones all the time.

Good luck.

SortKwik doesn't help sweaty hands. When I've tried it when my hands are sweaty, they just get gooey.

It comes in a small, round container about the diameter of a silver dollar, and about half an inch tall. I recall it being about $5 for a pack of three containers, but I could be wrong on that. It's cheap, nevertheless. It's not a lotion, though. It's kind of like chapstick, but far more solid. And pink. You just want to touch it, not like rub a bunch on. When my hands get super dry, to the point where I can't even get friction on the top card, I just tap the SortKwik with my index and the side of my thumb then rub those parts over all my fingertips and that gives me grip for a while. Generally only lasts about ten minutes, then you have to do it again.

Gary Darwin said something about 'bowl grip' you get it at the bowling alley. but he was referring to older magicians trying to do coin magic or things of the sort. said it would ruin a pack of cards

How much is it, and how much do you use at one time?

they are cheap they range from 2.99 to about 5 bucks. Just go to staples or officemax. Like ChrisT said very very little, just tap it once or twice. I just rub it between the index and thumb but you do all the fingers if you require it.

If that dosent help your dry hands just use the Vernon technique that I have heard about, Saliva lol. Apparently when he needed some grip he would just lick his thumb.

Current list of carry-around items:
Pack of cards
Porper clip (containing the pack of cards)
Black sharpie
Metallic silver sharpie
SortKwik container

;)

EDIT: Just bought SortKwik. Two words: Simply. Amazing. Light, compact, and just as good as people say it is. Easily obtainable, affordable prices, long-lasting. Go. Buy. Now. :D

I love you guys. The solution is to keep your hands not dry. Someway somehow sometime.
