Hello Everybody!!

I just wanted to say something that happened to me yesterday...

I finished attending a table and a person ask me if I had a business card because he wanted me to do a show for him...

I then hand him the card and I explain the kind of events I do and then he asked my price...now my price is not so expensive, but fair since I am the only magician in the city to do this kind of magic and also I was in this restaurant that is expensive and only people with good money goes there...

"what? do you really charge that?"
"yes, you see..." I said as I explained why I charged that...again is around 150 in american dollars, and it was my complete show
"it`s ok but I feel it`s a lot because you are a local magician, maybe if you were from guadalajara (a town near here)"
WHAT!!! WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS!!!


needless to say...I explained how I was the only magician doing this kind of stuff here and why would he wanted a magician from Guadalajara when he can have a better service from here....bla bla bla

has this happened to any of you? you get lookdown just because you are a local magician? I want to hear your thoughts and opinions...

You should have responded "All the great Magicians are local somewhere, you are just lucky enough to be from the same town as the great magician standing before you today. So, when would you like me to come do your show?"

Wow, what an odd comment. I wouldn't think the regional origin of a magician would really factor into the price at all.

Needless to say i'm not getting the whole "Only magician in town thing". I'm one of two working magicians in town and i find that nobody really cares about that.

If it's something dealing with your marketing strategy then, okay i understand but is it really needed if it's just for talk?

Rich people dont get rich by spending money.
They bargain sooo much its crazy sometimes.
Thats why he made that wierd comment and strange excuse about maybe if you were from guadalajara. just trying to get you to lower the price.

I didn`t lower it...but it was a nice try!!

I don't know about Mexico, but in the US I've frequently seen people think something is 'fancier' just because it's from somewhere else. For instance, I live right by Paso Robles which produces some excellent wines. But people will still oo and ah over a french wine of relatively similar quality just because it's french.

Also, visualartist is right. Rich people are often the cheapest people out there. That's how they stay rich.

Well I think that´s the case here...if you come from Guadalajara, Mexico DF or Monterrey you rock!! even if you are an incompetent sucker
