I use NitroPDF, but they offer a free verison with alot less features called PrimoPDF.

We used to use PDF995 at work before we got Office 2007.

It seemed to work alright.

Shout me down if I'm wrong here but I was under the impression you could make any word or image document a pdf just by exporting it? You certainly can on my Mac, click on file/print and there's a box that asks if you wanna save as a pdf or something...I dunno. Definitely works on my Mac though.

EDIT: Just had a look on a Linux as well, there's an 'export as pdf' option in the file menu for word processing.

Well, I use Pages, which is a Mac only software. It's very easy to use, and you can do pretty much everything with it. It's not a software for specifically making PDFs, but you can export as a PDF.
