G.O.A.T. Change and Self Invention

Hello all,
Most if not all of you will not know me, but I invent a reasonable amount of changes, tricks etc.
Recently I created a change, my best in my opinion. However this happens to be similar to the G.O.A.T., Carolina, Once in a lifetime etc. changes unbeknownst to me, as I had previously never heard of such changes. Hence when released my creation is obsolete, and everyone will think I'll just be another chump who learned it from the source that The GOAT will be taught, Andthensome, hence this is my statement to put to the forum to discuss;
Quite simply what do you make of the whole making of tricks unknowingly created then by a more famous magician, and then being labelled as a plagarist or another follower of said famous magician?
What are your opinions on the double creation of tricks and what to do to not be taken as someone who made a slight variation of the sleight once seen?

I'll be honest I've only come to this feeling recently so it's not much of a developed thought, but here goes:

The only ones that care who's effect/trick it is are magicians (with a possible exception) for what can be a number of reasons (I'll get to that in a few secs). However, spectators only care about the magic that's happening; not in the how but the way that you do it, that's what gets results... for them at least.

For instance, I could go into uni tomorrow and perform the G.O.A.T change (I can... or at least it looks the same, which is another point altogether). My spectators might be like "Wow that was cool! How did you do that?!" but it would most certainly not be "Wow, who came up with that, is that yours?" <--- By the way does this generic response seem vaguely familiar?

Anyway, like I said, magician's are the only one's who care for a number of reasons, what I've noticed mainly are:

• They are confused and want to know how it's done
  - If it's not yours they want to know where they can get it.
  - If it is yours they want to know whether you'll release it so
  they can get it.
• They want to seem clever and better than anyone else so they list every possible reference in the most condescending manner you can imagine.
• For the exact concerns you're facing with your created change, being considered - 'just another guy'

Of course this is just my view, but it's what you asked for. Now I did mention that there might be a possible exception, and that is the person who is not neccessarily a magician but may be a magic enthusiast, now personally I don't know of any - However these might be the kinds of people who care about originality and who created what, simply because they enjoy the history and that kind of thing.

I kinda went on for longer than I intended so...

The only people that care about the originality and creation of tricks are yourself and magicians. Yes I mentioned two seperate entities there, there's a reason for that, but I'll let you figure it out for yourself, you clever reader you.

Funny that you would post this, because I was wondering this as well. I've had my material for 3 years now, and I just recently started planning on releasing a PDF. Today, I got the newsletter from Dan & Dave saying they've released Avenue by Dorian Rhodell. The description for Finders Keepers sounds exactly like a trick I created a while ago, but probably isn't exactly the same. I don't really have any thoughts on this matter, but I to would like to hear everyone's thoughts. Peace!
