Hello everyone!

From time to time a thread pops up with the question "Are there any magicians in ___ area?" or the concern comes up "There are no magicians near me, so what do I do?".

Well, to answer both questions at once, there probably are magicians in your area. I live in the suburbs in Utah, if there was ever a place that lacked magicians it would be my corner of the world. In reality there are 6 magic clubs within 2 hours of my home that meet monthly.

So how do you find the magic community near you? First there are a few hubs of magic in the US and around the world. These include inside the US; Las Angeles, CA, New York, NY, Columbus OH, Las Vegas, NV, Orlando, FL, New Orleans, LA, Chicago, IL, Philidelphia, PA. In the UK there is a large hub in London and Blackpool. In Australia Sydney. Canada has Monteal and Toronto. These are where the trend setters live. If you live anywhere near any of these cities I am envious of you!

What if you live outside of these cities? Visit your local magic shop. If you are lucky enough to have one it will be a great resource for connecting with magicians. Go to the shop and ask for information on the local clubs, if they have lectures or if they know a certain magician in the know.

Okay, so you don't have a magic shop either? Look for a university near you. Most US cities are within an hours distance from a University. Give them a call and ask if they have a magic club. They will probably let you attend, or at the very least you can network with a couple of the magicians there.

The two biggest clubs in the US are IBM and SAM. These clubs have searchable websites where you can find if a city near you has an offshoot of either club. In little ole Utah we have 2 SAM assemblies and one IBM ring. You can also just Google your city and "International Brotherhood of Magicians" or "Society of American Magicians". Do this and I think you'll be surprised with what comes up. You can also check on Facebook.

In all of this, when you first attend the meetings or meet new magicians you will see the obnoxious magicians first. Don't let this disenchant you. Go to the club for a few months, eventually you will meet someone you get along with and this can form a relationship. Magicians are people, and people can be moody or arrogant or just less than perfect. Give them some time.

Hopefully this helps you to find other magicians in your area!

Hey Josh! Yep, I remember asking the forums about the Utah magic community and running into you - I've been super busy with end-of-year things for school, among other things, but I hope that I'll be able to come to a club meeting relatively soon.

If you live anywhere near any of these cities I am envious of you!
