Just a funny story that I thought I'd share. Well I was at work today and one of my co-workers asks to see a trick. I think of what I should do and decide to do a sandwich effect. I have him pick a card then I realize I neede my jokers. I didn't have my jokers so I look for the first pair I saw together and they were the Black 6s. So I have him lose his card in the middle and I take the black 6s wave them over the deck and his card ends up between them I turn it around and it is a red six. He was FREAKING out. His eyes watered up and he was shaking and laughing and yelling all at the same time. He thought that I did the "666" thing on purpose and called me evil and crazy and amazing.

Luck and coincidence have help me out a lot on numerous occasions. They have helped come up with some original effects and just change the handling of some effects that I perform. For instance I think that I am going to try the "666" sandwich effect on purpose this time and study the reactions I get from spectators. Maybe it will develop into some sort of routine. We will see.

I thought that I would share that with you and ask:

Can you recall or recite some times when pure luck or coincidence enhanced or even ruined an effect you were performing?

I was spreading through the card to find the four Queens to do "The Queens" by D&D, but I accidentally dropped the pack when a car honked at me. Funny thing, too - there were five cards faceup, and four of them were queens. Luck be with me :D

Great story, I actually am intrigued by the "666" idea and may use it.

Well for me I was doing some trick (don't know) and the card they had was the eight of clubs. After the trick I had them pick a card...and it was the eight of clubs. I repeated them to try and pick a card other then that but they kept doing it, and even cut it and the eight was there. They took it as an effect...but in truth this was just a crazy coincidence, in total it happened 5-6 times.

Oh their faces when that kept happening :D

Haha, awesome story. I haven't had luck help or ruin any effect for me yet. I hope that changes in the future. :D (Of course... for good... not bad ;))

It actually happens quite often that you cut to the card the spectator names without cheating.

A girl I performed for just couldn't believe the ACR, so she shuffled the deck herself. Too bad the card was on top when she had finished shuffling... I've also had loads of stupid opportunities where I've been able to repeat coin to eye several times. When they least expect it, I put the coin under the watch instead.

i did a trick where you have them pick a card, then show them a couple of cards that you think are theirs but are wrong. Finally i produced a four of a kind, one of which was theirs. however, they thought the trick was to continue, so proceeded to do queens until i had one card left and it happened to be theirs. They freaked out and now i have made it part of my routine!

Stuff like this happens to me a lot. I was doing a trick one time on the bus, and the wind came through the window and the card (and only that card) went flying and landed in the spectators lap.

When I was sessioning with a few other magicians and explaining a trick I said:
"OK so you need a card selected, let's just say the 6 of hearts."

And I flipped a random card over and it was the 6 of hearts, which was the nearest I've got.

Yeah, I've had that, never that good though.

Well I was just walking along and for a 'haha, he's obsessed' laugh I just said think of a card. I said 7 of clubs knowing that they would be like Ha, you need to get a life. Turns out it was the 7 of clubs. Sory for the rubbish explanation :P

At one of my bar gigs I had a group responding very well. One girl said "I'm thinking of a number from one to ten, what is it?"

I answered four. Her eyes went wide. Her friend asked me to name hers. Six. Wide eyes again. Another friend asked me to name hers. Nine. People started screaming.

I was close to screaming myself because I was simply guessing!

I've also had many situations happen in "The Trick That Cannot Be Explained" fashion that would probably never happen again in the same way, but which served me well in the moment.

Interesting topic!
