Lapping it up!

I recently purchased teh Devils Picturebook by Derren Brown. This is a brilliant DVD and I would instantly recommend it to anyone. The one thing that I have been having problems is the lapping vanish. He doesn't explain how to get out of his deck vanishes. I really wanna get it good as it is amazing but I have tried it a few times and people catch me when I try to get out of it.
Any tips?

I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say 'get out of it', i'm guessing you mean how to cleanup at the end. As with many effects on the Devil's Picturebook you simply have to choose the right moment to do the moves. After something else has just happened and everyone has relaxed a bit you can reach down and get the deck. It's really quite a simple move

Also, you say you've been caught a few times, after you get caught the first time you should stop doing it and work out exactly what went wrong, not carry on doing it again and hope it works the next time.

If you want to re-produce the deck try this, it's worked for me before :)

Cross your arms and lean slightly forward over the table as you reach down and grasp the deck (This is usually pretty easy to do unless they've gone all messy). Ask them if they can pretend to spread a deck of cards across the table "Humour me." you say. When they have done so, in one fluid motion, spread the deck exactly where they have spread the imaginary cards and make a positive comment on the strength of their imagination.

If you don't want to re-produce the deck, a top-it might be an idea. As you go to grab something else out of your pocket, grab the deck with the other hand and toss it in the top-it. :)

Just some options for you there.

for me, with any lap clean-up, i always ensure i will have a motivation to go into a pocket after the lapping. a quick duck into the pocket on an offbeat to grab a pen, handful of coins, will allow a very bold, but very effective clean up.

C!
