Leaving credits on videos

Is it right or wrong to leave credits on videos?

I have seen magicians who perform magic effects to a camera, and in the editing process in the credits they mention the name of the magician who created it (which is fair enough) and the name of the effect (which I feel is wrong).

Is this wrong?

I can understand to give your thanks to the magicians, but to mention the name of the effect can lead spectators in order to search the magic effect which can be a problem when it comes to people who reveal the videos.

Does anyone understand what I am trying to say here?

I feel the magic effect name is a secret for us magicians too.

Yeah, I've seen it and I think it just looks stupid.

Sure, upload your videos so that other magicians can see your stuff. There's nothing wrong with that. However, laypeople will find them and it does take some of the magic away if you namedrop. If a magician wants to know who created the effect and the name of said effect, and I mean if they really wanna know, they'll send you a personal message.

In my personal opinion, if someone wants to find an effect, they will, if they're really determined. In any case, I do credit my videos, I'll reconsider putting in the effect name - although to be fair they're not just "This'n'That" or whatever, no-one's gonna find a thing looking for "Dirty Stinkin' Ape in the Middle Revealed".

Dirty Stinkin' Ape In The Middle has to win an award for most pointless effect name.

if nobody put the name of the trick on their videos we would have a whole forum devoted to "What is this trick" threads

Yeah, and we can answer it as most of us are magicians.

When I create a video, I will put the name of the trick, a link to the website I bought it from, also how much it cost me, also while I am at it I will attach the instructions on how to do it.

I really think naming the effect for the public makes it easy for them to search how the secret is done, and also where to buy it.

"I really think naming the effect for the public makes it easy for them to search how the secret is done, and also where to buy it."

I got into magic by seeing some effects on the internet and then searching on how to do them, and getting directed to Ellusionist from someones tutorial video, so I disagree.

Not enough people see those videos for it to hurt magic as a whole, in fact I think it attracts more people to learn magic than it does to make them only want to search the "secret" and call your trick out.

"When I create a video, I will put the name of the trick, a link to the website I bought it from, also how much it cost me" Okay? Good for you, magic is an art why try and hide it?

I see nothing wrong with videos listing the name of the magician that created it AND the tricks name, the website they bought it at, or how much it cost them. The fact of it is if they want to learn, let them learn, don't try to make magic something that's hard to get information about, that's greedy.

Also if they are willing to pay money for a DVD just so they can call you out on a trick then don't you think that they look more ignorant for spending money just for an effect they won't even use?
