Lets Make It Happen

I am curious now I have seen many people postin about arguments and negativity, submit proof if it is okay with the OP I would like to see links to threads that have negativity and train wreck arguments.

Any thread by Lamont will do nicely :D

Or there was one in the coin magic section called 'Does Coin Magic...' But I believe that was deleted. Certainly for a good reason

For the last few months many people have been discussing the problems with theory 11. Myself and RD Chopper have sent several PMs to JB on possible improvements. So lets put everything down right here. I hope this turns out to be a good idea. So here is what I want everyone to do, hopefully we can get the majority of the members involved. Please answer the following questions truthfully. If you think something should be added, please let me know.

What is your name?
How long have you been doing magic?
How long have you been a member of T11?
In your opinion, how has T11 changed since you joined?
What are some problems you see in the forums right now?
What are the possible solutions?
-What can we do as a community to improve these forums for everyone?
-What could JB, John Raiker, and other administrators do to help improve the forums?
Do you believe the moderators are up to par at the moment? If not, what could they do to improve?

Answers dont have to be this precise, but please take the time to do this. Please please pleaseeeee do not resort to pointless arguments. I would be really upset if this turned into one big fight. I will post my response to these questions later today. Thank you everyone.

What is your name?

Doug.

How long have you been doing magic?

Almost embarrassed to say, but only a bit more than 2 years.

In your opinion, how has T11 changed since you joined?

Some people may wish to take me aside, shove me in a closet, and take a crowbar to my face for saying this, but I believe it changed a ton. Lots of members are more disrespectful. T11 has the credit of keeping me in magic. I would had quit without it. That's why I'm still here. I want to give back to the community that made me. (Yes I know I answered more than what the question asked for, but I decided to throw it out there.)

What are some problems you see in the forums right now?

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Not only that, but I believe that magicians in general are took stuck up. Sometimes I just say to the people I know "I wish I could just get all the magicians in the world into a room and tell them to shut up for two seconds." People take themselves too seriously. It's ridiculous. Be a little laid back sometimes. Jeez. That's why I hate magicians in general. :) (That and their massive egos. Jeez, you do magic tricks for people while there are other people doing heart surgery on someone who is dying. Shut up. So congrats. You can do your pass and someone else can cure cancer. Congrats.)

What are the possible solutions?
-What can we do as a community to improve these forums for everyone?
-What could JB, John Raiker, and other administrators do to help improve the

COMMUNITY: Simple. As I said, shut up. :) Start being more respectful to others. (Ha, I won't lie, that was irony.) If you see a video, don't bash them. If someone asks a question, don't bash them. In general: Don't bash people.

Sir Bayme III, Raiker, and other administrators: Honestly... Not much. Bayme is actually actively running a business, and really doesn't have much time to get on the forums. I've met JB in person once, and I've had a number of phone conversations with him. T11 is his life. (He makes a living from it.) He's also one of the hardest working guys I've come to know. He needs guys like Raiker (who also takes care of legal issues/support/helps with the site) and the other moderators to run the forum for him .That's where I come in. So I really have lots respect for those guys.

Do you believe the moderators are up to par at the moment? If not, what could they do to improve?

ANYONE WHO ANSWERS THIS BADLY ABOUT ME SHALL BE BANNED! (Ok, just kidding (not really(ok I am(No I'm not.))))

Seriously though, I've got a lot of things going on so T11 isn't my number 1 priority right now. Seriously, I love you guys, but I actually do have a life. Especially considering this is my senior year in high school, I've been doing a lot more socializing this year. I go out daily. I party now every weekend. In all honesty, I haven't even had that much time for magic and cardistry. I love them both, and I watch them both daily. I just have trouble fitting in the time for myself to do this stuff. (Once Genesis comes out, that will change. =P )

I get on when I can, and I post when I can. I just have a gazillion other responsibilities and things going on. That's why if you need to contact me about something urgent (or just wanna talk), shoot me an e-mail. Doug@Theory11.com (I love getting e-mail, so don't hesitate to talk to me. =P If you want me to recognize you from here, give me your user name here too in your e-mail.)

So, can the moderation improve? Well considering I haven't been around as much as I normally am, absolutely it can. The Dark Angel is rarely on (but when he is on, he does moderate). Jack The Magician is in college so it's obviously understandable why he's not on often. Zachmonky at this point is accelerating like crazy as far as his reputation goes. He's even performed at the magic castle, but he still finds the time to come on here. RA69 is on here often moderating. We do what we can, but we are not perfect.

We just don't want a site where half the members are moderators and half the members are users. Then it just seems like you have to be awesome to become a moderator, and if you're not awesome, you're just a normal user. That's also why we don't want an "elite" status with a special forum or something like that. We just want a small administrative team, and that's it. We are always willing to get someone else on board though. (Zach was made a moderator just a few months ago.) We always do what we can, and we appreciate feedback. (Not bs feedback, real feedback. I won't say who, but one time I got a PM from someone saying something like "Your community sucks, you suck, and everything about T11 sucks." I then sent him a PM back asking what his problem was. He said that I wanted feedback, and he gave it to me. Then we got into a nice little heated argument that ended with him telling me I'm attracted to monkeys. I stopped responding after that. lol)

I hope you enjoyed my blocks of text.

What is your name?
Justin Morris

How long have you been doing magic?
Since I was 8 or so, but making money at it for 8 years (phwew, time flies)

How long have you been a member of T11?
Since the beginning

In your opinion, how has T11 changed since you joined?
I have seen them live up to their claims of being a magic community that is different than the others. I see a very open, professional, and humble approach from the Theory 11 crew. That is much appreciated, and a big reason why I'm still here.

What are some problems you see in the forums right now?
Cockiness. To be blunt, I see the biggest problem is with the users. I feel that many of them feel they are gracing others by posting their comments, and really they are rude and condescending to everyone else. Not to mention some whine a lot about stuff just to be heard.

What are the possible solutions?
-What can we do as a community to improve these forums for everyone?
Simply model an attitude of humbleness and servant hood. Many people here have lots of great things to say and to add to discussion. But say them in a way that is helpful, humble and seeks to build another up, rather than with the attitude of superiority. The key word we must remember is community.

-What could JB, John Raiker, and other administrators do to help improve the forums?
I think they are doing a great job of modeling a professional, humble, and servant approach. They need to keep doing a great job. There have been many opportunities for them to lose their professional demeanor, but they have led by example. The more they post, and interact within discussions, the more they set the tone of the forums.
I suppose it would be great to see all the artist post more frequently.

Do you believe the moderators are up to par at the moment? If not, what could they do to improve?
The Mods rock. Thanks guys for doing a great job.
