It's sort of similar to what you are trying to get here. In Andi Gladwin and Tyler Wilson's book "Movers and Shakers", there is a sleight on page 29 that can accomplish sort of what you are thinking here. You weren't very specific in your post so I don't know how clean or visual or easy you want it but this comes to mind off the top of my head. Instead of a spread, however, you use a fan. The deck is fanned for the spectator and they look at a card they see and u know which card it is instantly. The way the method works is you kind of have control over the selection almost the entire time so it wouldn't be too difficult to just keep a little more control and you can produce it any way you want. It's a really good and inexpensive booklet with a lot of other great card material in there.

are you spreading face up or face down...? if spread is face down... one way forcing deck would be the easiest way to do it.

Sounds like you're looking for "Think of a Card."

David Williamson has a version of this on his "Magic Farm" DVD.
David Blaine used the force in his Drowned Alive special in the scene where he is in prison and he asks the guy to think of card and the queen he (the spectator) is holding ends up having the card he thought of drawn in the queen's hand.

I asked Williamson about the force a few months ago and he said he has about a 90% success rate with it. He does have outs covered as well, which he teaches.

Another good version is on Mark Mason's double DVD set, "Real World Magic." It's basically his handling of "Think of a Card."
Pretty sure-fire. It can also be repeated. I've used this version and it plays really strong for people.

Garrett Thomas also has his handling of "Think of a Card" on his DVD set "Inside the Mind of Garrett Thomas." I haven't seen Thomas's handling but I've heard good things about it. Anything by Garrett Thomas is going to be good though.

In all these versions the deck, which is normal, can be shuffled by a spectator beforehand.

Hope that helps. Happy Magic

Or a marked deck.

Face up. Check out Dee Christopher's Proximity Effects, the first effect Cold is a thought of card. Shuffle, deal the top 5, you tell them what card they're thinking of.

The suggestions above seem pretty good, I don't know of anything in the way of what you're talking about.

There are some very good effects that go like this:

You spread through the cards face up, and the spectator thinks of one they see.

The magician takes out the spectator's card. That's basically it. I tried out a version last week for the first time, actually - plays exactly like that.

There are actually lots of sources. As with most things, start with Erdnase.

Thats where the spectator names a card and you go through the deck and its the only card face down. If not then i dunno sorry...
