Luke, I cannot help you in regards to sales, but performing magic for your students once you get your own classroom of students can be a very powerful motivational tool. I've been teaching elementary school for the past 14 years and I perform a magic effect each Friday during the school year for my students.
Now, that being said, part of the deal is that the class has to work hard that week of school, have homework turned in, no major behavior mishaps, etc. The students tend to keep a close eye on each other and work hard as a team because they all want to see that new trick at the end of the week. I've seen kids start helping each other become more responsible with organization and bullying has been slim to none.
Also, you wouldn't believe the amount of paid gigs I get because of the amount of kids who then go home and tell all of their parents that Mr. Everhart is a great magician and does really cool magic tricks in the classroom. The next thing you know I am getting booked for company / corporate events as well as numerous birthday parties, fund raisers, and such. My network is huge and the kids pretty much do my advertising by word of mouth. Of course I still use my website and business cards, but believe it or not, word of mouth is powerful.
Good luck with sales and more importantly, good luck when you do join the teaching profession. You impact children in so many ways and it is so worth it.
