Does anybody have the article about Criss Angel being the magician of the year for 2008?
I can't seem to find it. I've searched and all I found was magician of the decade and 2007.

Thanks.

I think I would have awarded it to David Blaine, for being an amable, honest and friendly guy. During the dive of death, he helped people who had been seriously affected by hurricanes issues, and he connects people at an intimate level, black or white, asian or caucasian - and even though the stunt did not go according to plan;

He bounced right back up and is not going to give up.

Funny, that's exactly what I talked about in my essay for college.
It's very long and it is an argument on why I think David Blaine should have been givin the Magician of the Year award and not Criss Angel. I might post it in a thread if people would read it.

To be completely honest,
i wouldnt given it to either one of them.

1. Criss new show has been a mixture of horrible reviews. Wish him the best of luck with it. Hope its doing better.

2. Yes Blaine is an amazing magician and definately connects people from different backgrounds on a personal level and does so much for charity, but the stunt did not go according to plan, and to award someone magician of the year what you set out to do should go according to plan. If it was like nice guy of the year, Blaine all the way.

I honestly do not know who i would have given it to
Possibly if i had to say i would either go with one of the following two...

Jorge Blass, featured on the Cover of Magic Magazine this year with a full 8 or so page spread. His show Nada X Aqui has been doing amazing in spain with amazing illusions never seen before with no camera tricks allegedly. Plus all of the charity work he has partake in.

Or Wayne Houchin, Released two effects that have received nothing but amazing response from the community. Control and Thread. Also worked extensively behind the scenes on other releases (basically anything theory11 puts out). Worked on the True Astonishments project. Does an amazing amount of charity work i here. Have you seen his christmas give away by the way....woah. And is always helping the community.

So really i dont know, im no genius but if i had a choice it would probably be Jorge Blass, or maybe maybe Wayne. But i do not think Blaine or Angel should have received it, or at least not this year.

You give a good point.
Wayne Houchin has done a lot this year.

But David Blaine and his consultants work all year to create new magic to show off around the world for people.
Yeah it might seem like one special to you, but it's a year or mores worth of work. Shooting, creating, learning, editing, practicing and I'm sure there's more verbs I'm missing. Then you have the planning out to do for the stunt. So I'd say yeah, they are constantly under the gun.

I don't see David's stunt as a failure as many others do. Did it go the way he wanted it to, no. But that doesn't mean it was a failure.
If David didn't say anything about that it wasn't suppose to go down how it did, then no one would know that anything went wrong. Maybe he wanted to plan it that way for all we knew.

Honestly when I saw how he just fell and hung like that, I thought that he hung himself or something. . . hence "Dive of Death."
So it sure as hell shocked the hell out of me. But then they zoomed in and I saw that he was ok and smiling and that's when I was relieved.
So, he did a good job at freaking me out.
Goal accomplished.

I agree, i remember going "oh my god hes dead!"
But yes if they didnt speak of it before hand it would have been incredible for the media.

Im sure he will be back eventually and top it.
