Making people happy with magic

Everyone thursday I go to a nursing home in my community and stop by rooms to show magic to the sick in the nursing home. Afterwards I feel really happy and they do to, after I do the magic I always get a smile or a laugh. So I was just wondering if any of you perform for maybe a nursing home or somewhere else that would make people happy?
Thank You,
Donald

Not as of yet, but I am looking into the possibilty of doing some strolling stuff, ward to ward in hospitals.

You do a great thing, my friend, you should be pretty proud!

I used to perform in the childrens cancer ward at Scottish Rite.

It true, magicman1212. Seeing how happy you can make someone with something you love will put a beaming smile on your face.

This is one reason I can't stand people who only perform for the camera...they can be doing so much more if they just went outside :P

Hat's off to you magicman1212 for doing that. every time I perform my spectators can't help but laugh and smile. It's a somewhat natural reaction when you can't understand how something is done, which makes me feel great cause it means I just had a clean performance:)

ThrallMind I completely agree, performing for the camera is not entertaining for me anymore, it's down right irritating and doesn't help the performer nor the art. I had posted a thread a while back asking the proficient flourishers (cause most of them ONLY do it for the camera) to go and do some flourishing that incorporates some tricks for a live audience. the response was basically nil.

The tricks I perform are ones where they do not have to remember a card. I usually do color changes. If they do have to remember a card I usually do a quick revelation so they dont forget it such as hot shot cut or card to mouth.

I want to say I use my camera about half as often as I perform live. It helps on new material and since a lot of my closer friends are away at college it helps me see where performances need improvement.

I almost never post videos, nor do I battle here...I love fooling myself when watching the playback (and when I'm just fiddling around I usually tape myself, this is how I stumble into new things)

But live performances are why I do magic. Making people happy, even if its in a confused way, is the primary reason I do it. I'll probably do some tricks at the mall today, need to get a new jacket...girlfriend stole the only good one I had. >.<

But yeah-If I had a more regular schedule I'd probably try and do something along those lines. Maybe on my next day(or days) off I'll go up to the hospital and ask the nurses in the children's ward if it'd be okay to stroll around...

Every once in a while I will volunteer down at a hospital or nursing home and I love it! Sometimes I don't even perform for the people. sometimes, they simply just want someone to talk to for 15 minutes so I'll do that. That's what magic is... Happiness. If you call yourself a magician and you can't make a nursing home, or hosptal patient have a good day, then you are not a magician.

Spread the joy...
