My first 2 paid gigs!

Hi guys,
Thanks to everyone that offered advice and wished me luck last week.

Something cool happened during the week though, my agent called me and told me I have a second job straight after the first one - 45 min drive away at 100kmph though

The first job was a walk around/table hop at a 50th birthday and wedding anniversary with a........you guessed it, a pirate theme...wtf? :p It was a fun environment to work in but they were a tough crowd to begin with. I began breaking the ice with a simple red/blue double backer trick with an emphasis/performance based around psychological suggestion (most of you can work out the trick.) The first spectator seemed unimpressed, I just took in my stride - so to speak and proceeded to my second victim....I mean spectator :p 'Twas a gentleman in his 60's who at first glance seemed harmless at first who seconds into the trick lunged at me with both hands attempting to seize my gimmicked card  Stepping backward and slightly to the left this man almost falls flat on his face only regaining his balance at the last second. He laughs it off and I finish the trick. He then proceeds to inform me that he knows tricks that he doesn't need "trick" cards to do and how I wasn't a very good magician relying on a "trick deck." Feeling like I'd just received a special delivery of a self esteem killing foot to my down stairs, I swallowed down the taste of loss of credibility in the eyes of my surrounding spectators and moved on. I proceeded to the rest of the crowd with hit and miss success with my first effect (meaning some were impressed - some weren't). I proceeded to make my rounds again (avoiding the grabby gentleman) with Thought of Card to Pocket. Holy crap, I had an actual hit on my first performance! Then all of them after that I had to do the sleights properly but it was a success every time. I even got a few "F@#% Off!"s, everyone who's heard that after a trick knows how good it feels. I then walked my third and final round performing Voile Rouge from David Stone's DVD. This was well received by all as well. I had completed my hour and began my long drive to my next job which I will post what happened shortly.

Sounds not bad for a 1rst time. If that old guy had accused me of using a trick deck I would have done some flourishes to convince him that I didn't.....but maybe what you did was best. But congrats on getting a paid....it always feels good.
