today i just got back from i beginer magic course from devanports magic shop( im not a beginer i have been doing magic for like 3 years but on and off learnt of the net so i missed my foundation so i went on the coarse to get it) and when class was over i asked the teacher what kind of trick do u perform for stranger and how many, he said quick and visual effects. and 3 tricks is good 1 to introduce ur self 2 to be rememberd 3 for a finale. so i decieded to perfrom 2 card monte near the park near my house. i got there i saw some kid my age and his younger brothers playing footbal i thought i should perform for them. but i had to sit down on the bench first to go over my rountine. once i sat down i could not get up and perform i knew my routine i knew my pater ( more or less lol) and i knew how to introduce my self but i just could not get the energy to get up and do it. i literaly sat on the bench staring at them for atleast 45min. then something happend i thought about lee asher challenge comfort zone and i had not left that zone for soo long i bucked up the courge to go out and perform. they where playin in the middle of the park. the walk felt sooooo long i was nervous, stuttering, and slightly shakin.

i perfermed classic 2 card monte but with i produce the aces from my pocket. the reaction felt like.... AMAZING!! I FELT ADRENALINE RUN THROUGH MY FINGER TIPS I CANT DESCRIBE IT, IS this the feelin wayne houchin ws talkin about in art of magic. after this i felt so confident i HAD to do another effect basicly card revaltion through erdnase color change then heres my luck the boy know exactly what im doing not cause i perfomed badly but he had a friend who just liked to ruin magic so he saw my pinkie break and starting shouting it aloud i felt low but i continued the effect evan though he was there shouting the kids neva listen and enjoyed the effect but not as much as the could of. but evan though that kid but he down i was to high( confidence wise) to be but to low.

sorry i just had to share my expericene. ple share ur first times( my dysexic so dont be hurt ful) im so proud of my slef:D

Congratulations! It takes some guts to go out for your first time, but now you know how good it feels to do it. Best of luck in future performing!

alright so you performed for the first time. good job.
now you'll wonder how to get your jitters out. well the only thing i can say is to KEEP PERFORMING!
magic is kind of useless unless you go out and entertain.
its like having superpowers. if you had superpowers, would u keep them to yourself? or want to use them for good?(or evil)
but yea the first time is wicked hard.
just remember when u go up to someone and show them a trick, you may be put down. you may be accepted.
just go and ask someone to see magic.
then it just gets easier from there.

but yea its an amazing thing.

i kind of remember the first time i did magic to a stranger. but not well enough to tell anyone about it.
but im sure it was a good warm feeling.

I would like to say congrats on your first performance. For the introduction, I think you should introduce by saying "Hi, my name is (insert name) and may I show you something"?

Congrats!

I know how you feel with the person saying what you're doing.... you feel awful.. but the good thing is that not everyone does that.

Most people don't. Right now is not a good time to learn how to control hecklers, as you just started actually performing, but eventually you should pick up a book on crowd control... just my thoughts.

My first time performing was awful... I probably did a good job but I was shaking so much.

But as someone said before, the only way to get better at not shaking is to perform more.

Hope this helped

That was an awesome story. I'm glad you found the courage to get up and do it.
One thing to do to improve your confidence is to know EVERY part of your performance. Know your patter cold. Know your hand movements cold. Know where your props are. Know where they are when you end a trick. Get to the point where everything you do is habitual. A great book is Showmanship For Magicians. All the performance secrets you'll need is in there.
The more prepared you are, the more confident you will be.

The best piece of advice I was ever given was fairly straightforward.

Do you know the difference between a professional magician and an amateur?

The amateur is the one afraid of making mistakes.

The nerves are always there, as they should be they keep you focused on what you are doing. They shouldn't get to the point where you are unable to perform.

Mistakes happen. No one does their job perfectly every time and that includes the person sat opposite you. The trick, please forgive the pun, is to know where the highest chance of a mistake occurring within a particular routine is and doing everything you can to minimise that risk maybe altering the sleight to one you are more comfortable using or maybe having an out.

Congratulations on your first performance and best of luck for future performances.

Apologies if this post doesn't read to well I've just got back from the pub. :p:p:D

2 card monte, or just a simple. show a card, change the card kind of effect. short, sweet stab to the neck.
when you perform, dont worry about doing the newest and best trick or something difficult.
I perform WOW. SIMPLE EASY KILLER
