Just 5 minutes ago I was told that on Sunday, I would be preforming magic for my little cousin's birthday (my first serious gig as a magician). I was wondering what tricks 9 year old kids react the best to, or if I should change my patter for other tricks, so that the kids understand it.

A few of my favorite tricks in my repertoire include: Cannibal, coin waltz, Dresscode, Spiral (in Jay Sankey's Hardcore dvd), Rizer, Fiber Optics rope magic, Raven, and Fraud.

I also know basic card and rubber band magic, like Ambitious Card, and Crazy Man's Handcuffs (I know more than that though). I also know some sponge ball magic.

So again, what would you preform for 9 year olds?

Edit: Feel free to suggest other tricks that I didn't mention here. The tricks I mentioned above are SOME of my favorite tricks (I have other favorites, but they are more obscure tricks, i.e. Jumper, MacDonald's Aces (ungimmicked), Cthulhu's Aces).

A 20 minute show with 10 kids can be a walk in the park for some of us or a nightmare to others. You need about 5 effects with patter and you should be set. Anything visual for this age group is a must. Humor is imperative as well. Silks...rope magic...cups and balls...thumb tip work...change bags...magic tea kettle..grandmas necklace...stratosphere....sucker die box....these all play well. Dress code and sponge balls from your list look good too. CMH is sort of a small effect for a birthday party.

Get the kids up and moving. Be silly and confident yet have a tight reign of control as well.

hi man! I work with children im educated to work with kid from kindergarden up to junior high, note that im not a pro magician :). I`d recomand a para normal aspect patten. If a kid is being trubble try to interact spesial with him and maby move him from his side kick (theres always anoter) to another spot in the line.

Erik.
