Have any of you worked on a big style theatre venue?

If not, I shall keep this thread updated as I am working at two big theatre venues. Please click the links for pictures and information!

The theatres I am working in are called The Victoria Hall, and The Regent Theatre.

Yesterday, I worked on the Circus of Horrors show, from working at 4pm till 12am. This took place at the Victoria Hall.

I took a picture of the Victoria Hall after the get out at about 11pm last night. This is a much smaller venue than the Regent Theatre, so I will promise to get photos of the Regent too.

Today I am starting at 3pm, for the Beyond the Void performance at the Victoria Hall. I will try and get some performance pictures, and some backstage photos for you guys.

I know this isn't related to magic directly, but if you are interesting in stage magic and performances, this thread may interest you! To make it more related to magic, I may appear in some of the photos playing with cards.

So keep a look out in this thread for more photos and information!

Ah that's awesome dude, nice going... Good luck with your shows and stuff. I've never performed magic in big theatres, but I've performed in various productions in similar spaces.

Back on topic:

Yesterday I was controlling the sound and mics for the night performance, here is the sound desk.

As you can see that window on the left of the photo is looking out over the heads of the audience, and straight at the stage. The left sound board is to control all the sound levels and microphone levels. Also, it controls if anything needs muting, plus it is to control all of the sound for all the backstage crew.

The tower on the left is to level up and arrange the music from minidisc, and CD, also USB, or you can connect a laptop directly into it.

Here is a sneak picture of the bar in the front of house when empty! - This is where the public can get the drinks and snacks!

To give you the size of the venue, it holds 2,800 people! Here are some more pictures, unfortunately not all of the theatre can fit in because it is so tall and wide!

More pictures of this venue is on the way.

But the next pictures will be of the even bigger theatre, The Regent Theatre. The Chinese State Circus is on, so I will try and get some photos of their set and them in action in rehearsals!

Here is the final picture for today of a couple of the outside of the dressing rooms.

I did not take pictures inside, as I am sure the dancers would not appreciate me taking photos of them getting changed! - Although I wouldn't of minded, and I am sure some of you guys wouldn't mind either! Hehe!

Last week I was working at the Regent Theatre. It has 200 more seats than the Victoria Hall which were the photos above. The Regent Theatre stage is much larger, and also it has a full size fly tower. The show that was on, was the Chinese State Circus, it is a fantastic show, it blew me away! They are all extremely talented!

With this you can just about see the size of this venue! - This is only the auditorium... Let alone the size of backstage and all the offices!

Here is a view from looking down from the upper circle. The mat you can see creeping under the curtain is in fact part of the mat from the show which is a safety mat for the performers.

Here is one of the hidden lighting planks. You can see the bar of lights at the front, but you can also see a dark section of lights in the actual circle which people can operate spotlights from.

Here is one spotlight.

I am not allowed to take photos of the actual performances during the show, but I managed to get a couple of the performers rehearsing before the show.

Here is a guy who spoke very little English, and I asked him to juggle some hats, he is only juggling three there, but he can juggle 10, and also do flips and acrobatics at the same time. But he does not do that before the show in case of any injuries!

This girl is ever so clever, there were 6 girls with these diablos (sp?) and they would do a hell of a lot of spins and acrobatics while jumping on each others shoulders while still moving the diablos! This picture was taken when she was spinning around really fast! - Which is why she has her back turned to it.

One of the best circus shows I have seen, they are absolutely amazing!
