Repulsion (variation of C. Angel's trick)

Well you're learning. At least we didn't have a minute thirty of you just walking around with music in the back ground. The black and white filter, while artistic, works against the magic being presented because it obfuscates the audiences ability to clearly follow what is being done. The problem most artists face when filming magic is the obstacle of overcoming believably. Everyone is well aware that things like what you feature in your video can be done with special effects, and camera tricks, and it's easy to dismiss this performance as such. You need to do everything you can to give counter arguments to that such dismissal. Clear video, realistic skin, blood, acting, and reactions help sell this effect a lot.

Your technique is effective. If you are just filming a video, then the effect is as well. However if this is being presented as a piece of magic, then it comes across as kind of camera tricky. Doesn't help either that you are coping a magician who is known for such things.

Which brings me to another point... It's okay to emulate other magicians when you are learning, however you seem to be trying your hardest to brand an image for yourself. Phantasmagoriana. I would advise, for the sake of creativity, to limit the amount of material you produce that can be seen as a direct copy of another magicians work. Posting too many of these videos where you are performing effects other magicians are known for will get you labeled as a hack- something you desperately want to avoid. Try to develop more of yourself, and things no one else is doing.

Another incredible video where I can't see a thing.....on top of that when you cut your arm it isn't convincing without sound, acting and blood. The skin separates like cheap elastic as well. Tricks like these are best received when the people watching the video can see real life reactions. I hate the freedom youtube provides sometimes but hey, at least you're not making tutorials.

You can get a lot of negative reaction from magicians on a magic forum. But honestly, go perform it. That's the real test. Reactions from laymen are more important than reactions from magicians. So if you get good reactions from people freaking out, by all means.

First, I think the trick you were referencing was Sick by Sean Fields. Criss Angel didn't create this trick, he just performed it. I don't know why you called Angel's version "terrible". It was interesting to watch, had a nice performance, and looked pretty realistic as far as having an object INSIDE of your skin. But maybe that's just me... Now on to the video:

To me, it just looked unrealistic. One thing I mainly had a problem with is that apparently you made a quarter disappear and it showed up in your arm. This would probably make more sense if you had patter in your video, but since you didn't, so I'm not sure how a person is supposed to believe that a sketchy coin vanish caused it to go into your arm. At least with Sean Fields' version, he "swallowed" the coin, placing it into his body.

I feel like you did the grayscale to try to cover something, but even if you didn't, I wouldn't use it for a magic trick video. It takes away from the realism of the video, or at least the feeling of realism. I suggest that you at least try to further improve your method if you feel like Sean Fields version could be better. But I suggest checking out a theater or a stage prop supply store or something to find some good looking fake blood and skin.
