The Saturday Night Contests have been a staple in the forums for quite the number of years. The number of people entering are increasing along with a number of people who are entering on a weekly basis.

So, for grins and because I can. I want to know what contests do you think you do the best on and which contests are the bane of your existence?

My best contest was the Set A Record contest that I won and it's the reason I have my Gold Monarchs. :D My worst is any guessing contest because I am never anywhere close on those...

Great topic Brett! My best contests (back when I could enter) were always the performance/challenge based contests. I remember two specifically, one that involved Card Throwing and another one was a pen levitation that I did. The pen levitation video was cool because I made it a really dark setting with only a candle lighting the room, and I held a pen vertically at my fingertips. I remember letting the pen go and it stayed still, and then I slowly let it float over to the candle. Had some eerie music behind it, and overall I set a great mood for it. Putting in that extra effort is what got me the win, so I highly recommend you take that extra step, because it could propel your entry to the top!

I don't think I'm good at any of them to be quite honest. But I try my best and I think that is what the judges look for , I've receive honorable mention twice now One for predicting a score , and last Saturday which was the anything but a castle, so I think I'm on the right track. I'm just looking for that one contest that will turn me into a prize winner. I don't know exactly which contest that will be, but one of these Saturdays I'll get it.

My three SNC wins would imply that I love nothing more than competitive guessing and all things random.
In actuality, I love the contests where you have to make a video because you can implement the most humor in them. Namely the 'fake reveal' magic videos.

The first video that really got me enjoying the contests every week was a fake reveal of 'Counterfeit', a torn and restored effect, last January. Being new to magic, I had absolutely no idea how it worked or any inkling of how it COULD work. Being one of the more lighthearted contests, I felt comfortable enough to make the most ridiculous video I could. Every scene, I had the actual card change for no magical reason whatsoever, I botched every sense by gluing my fingers to the card, 'restoring' it upside down. And the grand finale of setting my backyard on fire. It was a glorious mess of a video that ended up being really funny that I get hate mail for to this day. Humor appeases the inner troll.

However. Instagram picture contests? No, sir. When it comes to having the eye of a photographer, I'm about as blind as a bat. I've managed to get honorable mentions on two of those contests, but I was so shocked by the revelation that I wasn't able to learn anything from the occasion.

Photography is a tricky one, indeed. I feel like this phrase gets exhausted over and over again, but practicing and taking photos constantly is what's going to propel you forward and help you progress. I would suggest taking pictures of things every day so you can start to acquire the eye for what makes a good picture and what doesn't. Work on your composition, the lighting, the setting. All of it adds up the more you take it into account, and over time you will begin to see an improvement in the way your pictures look. You don't have to have a fancy camera; it's the person taking the photo that makes the photograph look the way it does.

I really enjoy the fake reveal contests. I can think of tons of bad ideas for making an effect happen, so it's fun to use some of those ideas. I like the arts and craft ones (I've been so busy since Christmas and have missed some awesome contests! :().

I'm not a huge fan of the random guessing ones, but I think they are still good because they give everyone an equal opportunity to win some stuff. But my least favorite to participate in (But I love to watch the results!) are the flourishing ones. I am not very adept with flourishes. I have been practicing the same 12 flourishes for 16 years, and I'm just okay at them. I try to learn new ones, but few stick. To ask me to create one is like handing me some coal and telling me to make a diamond. But I love to watch the results!

I'm no good compared to what the quality others submit into these SNCs,with only a cellphone camera and no assistant, but I try to submit every week except when its a photography contest. The best result I ever got was winning a guess contest back in I think 2009, and recently an honorable mention a few backs back. And i cant wait for this Saturday too, many other magic websites started their own weekly contests but they couldn't get it to continue over an year.Hats off to the t11 team for keeping the SNCs running for years now (this makes me think how old the SNCs are? 8 years?) And i hope you guys continue to do so till eternity
