Shell Issue

Whenever I use my shell, it seems the coin gets stuck inside the shell. I have to pry it open and throw it around. This is too bad for me, as I just bought an effect that needs a shell. Won't say the name due to possible exposure.

The shell is a 1999 Roy Kueppers expanded Kennedy half dollar. Any help at all would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If it is an expanded shell and the coin is getting stuck inside of it, the shell is probably defective. Most likely there is a bend on the lip of it. I would contact who ever you purchased this from and tell them about the issue your having. Hopefully, they could either send you a new one or refund your money.
I'm not saying you should do this, but if there is a bend in the lip, you could attempt to fix the bend with a pair of needle-nose pillars, however if you do that you just lost your opportunity to return it to the seller.

Try different half dollars. All half dollars have a little different diameter. A very small change can make a big difference.

If your shell does have some kind of "ding" in it, Roy Kueppers is actually on the current issue (issue 14) of Reel Magic Magazine explaining how to fix this problem.

Whats up my eNIGMA!

Kueppers shells are good, some of the main issues with coins getting stuck are the above.

Some shells are made just for certain coins - because Roy trys for a nice fit, in short, it isn't one size fits all.

As JPM said, the ding could make it snug - I am not sure if I would recommend buying a DVD mag to learn to fix a problem you shouldn't have...so I will share what I do.

Take a bill - place it over the coin you are trying to fit it in - place the shell on the coin with the bill in the middle. The bill allows for the shell to "expand" a little, and if the coin get stuck - just bull the bill taunt and the shell will pop off. Doing this a bit, will help deal with "tight shell" syndrome.

A good shell should fit snug, but not too snug - in other words, be able to roll the shelled coin across the fingers, but no so tight it doesn't fall out when the shell is being held by the sides.

Roy is a cool guy - if it is a manufacturing issue, he will fix it.

Hope the bill between coin and shell tip helps.

Peace out.
