Short Film - "Believe In Magic"

Hey guys,
So recently I've wanted to get more into short films so i decided why not start with something associated with magic?
It's a 30 second short which was entirely created by myself; directed, edited, produced the beat, color corrected and was the "actor".

Hope you enjoy. Please I would love as much feedback as possible. I would love to one day direct so I see this as a good starting point.

the beginning of the beat (up until 0:09) is pretty nice
but you haven't used it at all
instead of the straight cuts you should have faded the clips to black at the end
with a little better colour correction and with a darker atmosphere the beginning would have been pretty cool
but overall there wasn't really a concept
for the next project you might consider to write a small storyline

a little exercise you can try
start to make small projects like this
write the script on friday,film the scenes on saturday and then edit the clips on sunday and do this for a few weeks
also watch a lot of films and copy the way the cameras move and the way the scenes are cut together
you can really learn alot just from watching films carefully

I liked the first few shots, didn't like the music, didn't like the 'over the shoulder' angle while you were doing color changes.

You titled it 'believe in magic' but almost everything I saw (sans the color changes) had to do with gambling. Gambling does not equal magic, and magic does not equal gambling.

Also, I didn't see any magic in the clip.... Maybe if you would have split an ace into two twos, or restored a torn card, or changed a one into a hundred.

If you would have had the same shots, minus the color changes, and added a bottom deal, a second deal, and a stacking effect and switched the name to something like "Skill vs Luck".

As for the music, to each their own. I just didn't feel a vibe between what I saw and what I heard. Maybe something not so loud and hard hitting. Something quiet and mysterious, that fills out the mood.

Color correction would have been nice, are you edition on Final Cut or iMovie or Windows Movie Maker?


My second major is in film production if you need any help

Looked like an Ellusionist advert more than anything else with the coins and arcanes. The video is OK, the best thing about it is the coin vanish but I don't think 30 seconds counts as a "short" even though it is very short.

Look at shorts on vimeo by professionals, they generally tell a story and try to evoke some kind of emotion.
