Yes, people are actually fooled by this trick. I had it performed personally to me by a close friend of Harry Lorraines..... I was shown afterwords what was going on. I use this effect all the time.
If you watch the preview of Oz Pearlman's Triumph dvd he does and it got a nice reaction. The method is fairly simple and gives you so much room for presentation.

It's a discrepant visual, so no, it will not fool all of the people all of the time, some people just simply have a knack for seeing through things like that. But, it CAN be very fooling. I use it almost daily and I've never been called up on it.
