Hey guys. Everytime I would perform for people, there is always at least 1 person who wants to ruin every trick I have. Even though my tricks are good, my patter really sucks sometimes becuase those hacklers make it really hard for my patter. Any suggestions???

Perform your last trick for that group and leave.

Before anything, try using the search function. This issue has come up a lot.

To add substance to my post, I'll add that you'll definitely want to work on your presentation/patter. That doesn't mean stick strictly to a script, either...you should be able to be fluid, rolling with the punches, throwing in a joke here or there if you see fit, engaging in actual conversation like a normal human being.

For more information, check out some of the other threads--they'll likely contain a lot more useful information. :)

i agree with the above, also i have to say that if your on the street just walking up to people performing and this happens, judge your audiance better before you ask them to see something, I perform on the street all the time, and I have not been heckled in a very very long time.

Take this bad experience into a learning experience

That has happened to before when I first started performing my magic for strangers. Although the experience can be frustrating, the best thing to do is turn this negative experience into something positive. What I did to fix this problem, is just watch a few crowds of people you would like to perform. While this is happening, take a look around at the other people who are around the spectator you want to perform for. Next take a glance at the other people that happen to be around the person whom you wish to show your skills.

If you see someone who is being overly obnoxsious either because they want to show off for their friends to make them look "cool" in front of your friends, you just might have a problem with that particular person. While I was reading Jay Sankey's Beyond Secrets, he has some really good advice on how to either avoid that person, or during the process of performing, how to properly control that individual.

Although there are times when nothing of the sort will help, and the best advice I ever received was to say, "Thank you for your time everyone, but it appears someone it just not interested in the art of performing card magic or any other variation on what you have in your set list.

It really is unfortunate that there are people out their who only want to see you fail because they think, "Well Magic is fake, who cares if I ruin one or two effects he wants to perform."

Just take all of these bad experiences, head home and then re-evaluate what exactly was the problem during your performance that made this person want to call you out. A lot of the time, during this period where you reflect upon what works and what doesn't, and just keep a positive outlook since there are actually more people who WANT to see you perform your magic art, while only a select few want to destroy it.

Keep practicing, keep up the good work and you'll easily be able to scan groups of people and know which of the groups will give you a better response and experience.

Then again, this is just what has happened to me, and what I did to correct those problems and also scanning groups for the right targets almost seems like second nature to me.
