I am not sure what I am getting. Do you mean stand up as in a stage, or performing magic while you are standing up? If the second option is the one that you are looking for, I am glad to help you out.

I have a contact who greatly helped me out of how to organizing a routine. I strongly advise you to check this out: How to Organize A Routine Thread

Hey SKSofH,

From the sounds of your post - you have the answer in you. It is not about "how many" when dealing with time, it is about how to build a show with different effects...I mean, I wouldn't do red hot momma, and a colour changing deck in the same set, as the effects are similar.

20 minutes can be 3 tricks - or 13 tricks - it depends on the effects chosen and why. You do need an opener, something that will make them like you...and realize you aren't your average magician...a middle - offering variety and strong magic - then a closer that will make them wish you never stopped...leave em wanting more.

So, focus on how to link or move from effect to effect, without saying...here is a trick...and here is another...and another...plus, they have to flow. You can't do a trick with one deck, then switch to another, then another.

You have your work cut out - but don't think how many...think quality in that time frame.

How many is more for table to table magic - in which case, I would recommend no more than 3 and they fit similar criteria as above, but they need to be independant, because of food arriving...in the above show criteria - your time will dictate what you should do, but they should be structured to MAKE a show.

Watch a magic show to get an idea of how to build one.

I would like to thank Morgician for this one.

Some of the close-up tricks for cards are:
-2 Card Monte
-Biddle
-Sandwich Tricks
-Hedpeak's All Over
-Surfaced DVD by Chad Nelson (he has some great stand up tricks using a clip shift)
-Reflection DVD by Bill Goodwin
-Trilogy by Dan and Dave Buck Trick DVD (some of them are great for standing up)

Some other card tricks may require a table to perform. I highly sugget you to buy Royal Road to Card Magic and Expert Card Techniques books. Hope it helps you out. I also advise you to start performing sponge ball routine. Another great stand up close.

Hey man here is a copy of a thread I posted about stand up magic. I found as cards go invisible deck makes a really good stand up piece. Here is the copy of the thread and if you have any other questions just ask and I will try to help as much as I can.

"I have heard lots of discussion about close up and restaurant magic here and this is the kind of magic I do mostly. But what I want to discuss in this thread is Stand Up Magic. By stand up I mean not quite close up but not quite stage. Usually a audience between 20 - 60 people. Do you guys do alot of stand up? How does stand up differ from close up? What is your favorite stand up routine?

I have done some stand up and my favorite stand up effecs are as follows,

Invisible deck - I Love this one its gets the audience involved. Packs Small and plays big.

Multiplying Red Balls - I have used this effect for a long time and I just love it.

Linking rings - Packs farely small but is a good visual effect and is big enough for all the specators to see it

Cups and Balls - My very favorite stand up effect ever. I just love it. I love the ending. I love the over all effect. I love it.

Those are a few of my favorites what are yours? I have seriously considered getting Fiber Optics Extended by Richard Sanders. Do you guys think this would make a good stand up piece.( I already use the professers nightmare plot.) There are so many wonderful stand up pieces out there like torn and restored news paper, like some leviations, like dollar bill to lemon, ect. I just thought we could narrow it down to a list of the best of the best.

So what are your guys thoughts on stand up magic?"

Thanks,

Christian
