Stopping Magic Exposure on Youtube?

I just bought needle though arm a couple of cays ago because my original broke. I paid about $39 for it and after about an hour after I got home I noticed some shmuck put a how to video up on the web.

After purchasing Pressure (AWESOME!!) I am concerned the same thing may happen. Just a matter of time.

So I was thinking;

Has anyone tried to contact youtube for copyright violations when a trick is exposed? Youtube is very afraid of being bombed with lawsuits so their kneejerk reaction is to usually pull the video. I see hundreds of complaints on the youtube message boards about people whining when 'their' video is pulled because they used copyrighted music. So why not enforce a copyrighted effect?

Even the threat of it more than likely get youtube to pull it. Certain effects are obviously intellectual property which are licensed to those that BUY the effect others are public domain because they predate or have reached the copyright time limit (60 years I think).

Any thoughts.

Don't go for streamlined material.... Buy a few books.. People don't usually bother reading these days, but that is where the goods are at.

An exact copy or rip of a dvd on youtube would be against copyright laws. But a process, or method of doing anything is known as intellectual property, and is in no way protected by the law.

Yeah, I would love it if YouTube stops magic exposure. It's entirely too much.

I think the only thing that should be allowed are tutorials on basic flourishes, CardShark88 has plenty of good ones, but even simple ones like the classic coin matrix should be hidden. It just kills it, even if it's not exposure, many people will comment on how it is exposed.

Ugh..

Agreed.
I'd rather buy a book for $30 and get over 100 pages of teaching multiple great tricks, than a $30 DVD that teaches one trick, which every magician will be performing.

Hmmm, strange how these threads always pop up when a magician gets mad for people revealing a trick that they own, but I never read a thread that stated, "I'm mad because I just saw the method for this new trick, and now I don't have to pay for it!"

Books are great and all, but seeing the actual performance is much better than a series of pictures, especially the older ones with hand drawings..
The teaching for handling and performing is much better viewed on video. It's a bit harder to grasp when you read the effect and think about it for a second.

Woah, I never knew that
In that case, shouldn't it be easy to remove these videos?
We do our very best. If you ever see a poor performance of any theory11 effect that blatantly exposes the method posted on YouTube, feel free to shoot me the link via PM.

Going to close this one - as I feel it's run its course.
