Hey guys this is my first thread on the theory11 forums and I don't know if I will get any answers but if I do great! I was wondering what effects you guys recommend that have little or no reset for close up magic that I can use while going from group to group to preform magic thanks so much for reading and answering!

Really need to know what you know already and how long you have been at this. Also pick up the Jamie Grant book The Approach

From your post it seems you just thought of the idea. So I wouldn't try to jump right into it yet. But here are some BASIC routines (which are better than quick tricks.) Learn a decent 3 phase ACR (either ending in your wallet or in your pocket. Though, if you can load a card into your pocket, then you can load a card into your wallet or pretty much anywhere.).

As far as book go. I would suggest Eugene Burgers Mastering The Art of Magic. But really, what really matters is that there is no hard and fast rule when it comes to performing.

I have been doing specifically close up magic for a year and a half and some tricks I have that I preform are:
Eye exam
Lucky coin
Invisible deck
Sponge balls
Cups and balls
Impromptu triumph
Marshall's ten card
Fraud knot
And some others

Thanks for replying

I highly recommend this book by David Stone.

I'm assuming Jamie Grant's new book called The Approach is spot on as well. Just by looking at the table of contents and reading through his past threads tell me he knows exactly what he is doing.

I recommend performing things like triumph, ACR, Crazy Man's Handcuffs, a nice little Chop Cup routine, Mismade Bill or Quaflex, Spongeballs, Copper Silver Brass, and anything that hands out your business card at the end For Example: Doc Eason's Out to Dinner Clip. You are correct in that you virtually want effects that are instant reset and you will want 3 sets of 3-4 effects.

Pocket management is a MUST or you will go insane. Every item needs to go back where it came from EVERY time.

By the sound of it you already have enough material to meet your needs and still keep you busy for a couple of years. I would recommend against the temptation to buy more stuff because you're going to get information overload.

I would suggest taking it a step further and rather than having quick tricks. Try to look for routines that build into each other smoothly. Something like ACR to Wallet, or something that has 3 phases in it. This way you avoid the situation of becoming the cliche of saying "And for my next trick!".

Lonnie Chevrie did the Penguin Live Lecture last night. It clocked in at almost four and a half hours but he talked about strolling/table hopping and how and why se structures his routines the way he does. Well worth the $30 http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/3874
