"It's called: The Royal Road To Card Magic..." And that was all he said.
ONE WEEK LATER...
Ryan struggled to complete the section of the book he was on. He just couldn't decipher the moves he had to do to complete the trick. even the simpler effects he just couldn't work out. He had always had problems reading books and found it hard to pay attention and not lose his train of thought.
He put the book down on his desk and rubbed his eyes. He couldn't continue like this. He woulkd take the book back to the shop tomorrow and see if there was any other advice Joe might be able to offer him.
So Ryan turned out his light and squeexed into his tiny bed. His father had not arrived home yet, he was probably out drinking somewhere, and his mother didn't get home until the early morning.
After a few minutes of lying there he drifted into a deep sleep.
*****
His eyes snapped open as the light shined through the window onto his face.
He glanced over at the clock. It was 10:30.
He hopped out of bed and got dressed. He grabbed his coat and headed out to Main Street. He wanted to bring the book back and try and exchange it for something else, or at least see what advice Joe could give him about reading the books or if he had any other material he might find it easier to learn from.
He started to go into a quick walk. Best to get some excersize while he was out. He just kept running and running until he broke into a sweat and he just couldn't run anymore. So, he stopped and took a breather.
Finally, he made it to the Store and was delighted to find that it was already opened. He went in. There was nobody her today either. How was Joe keeping this shop open in the current economy??? The world may never know.
So Ryan walked in and let his eyes wander looking for Joe. He was no where to be found. But then, all of a sudden, a hand clamped down on Ryans shoulder and a voive asked:
"Now, you haven't perfected three tricks yet, have you, Ryan?"
Ryan turned around to face a big smiling Joe.
"No. But that's what I am here to talk to you about. I am having some trouble learning from the book you gave me." He told Joe holding the book out to him. "The info just isn't sticking and I'm having a tough time decihering it."
"Okay. What exactly do you mean?" Joe asked.
"Well, it seems like I'll read it and look at soem of the pictures but I just can't do it. I don't really understand what the book s telling me to do. I have never truly been a strong reader either." He said.
"Alright." Joe said thinking.
"Is there any advice you can give me that might help me? Or am I screwed?" Ryan asked hoping that Joes answer was not the latter.
"Well, you certainly are not screwed but you just might need some extra help. I think I might know what to do here."
"What's that?" Asked the boy curiously.
"Well, I don't usually do this so you can't tell anybody okay? But I am going to offer you private magic lessons with me." He said. "What time do you get out of school?"
"Around 1:45." He said.
"Excellent. On Wednesday there is another young man that comes in and helps me run things. He can handle the store while I do an hour lesson with you. Say...From 2:30 to 3:30. Is that fine?" He asked.
"Sure! That would be great!" He said excitedly. But all of a sudden his mood shifted. "But...Well,... Ummm....My money situation is not very good right now." He admitted.
"That's okay. I'll do it for free, but you mustn't tell anyone okay. You must keep a secret, that is the number one rule in magic." He whipered.
"Thank You!" Ryan exclaimed.
"Sure, Sure. Now, you run along and I'll see you on Wednesday." He replied and waved to ryan as he left the store/.
Ryan was very excited to say the least. He was going to have a mentor. Someone to show him the ropes. He was actually going to learn magic, and for free!
He couldn't have been happier...

I do apologize,
Tonights chapter was much shorter than the previous ones. I was very busy this week and didn't work on it for very long. But don't worry. Next week you will have part 6.
