As we come to the close of our initial contractual term for PANIC (with Aaron Fisher), we are also faced with limitations by US Playing Card with regard to modification of US Playing Card trademarked back designs.

For both of those reasons, and with full respect to both AF and USPCC, we announce and give the heads up today that PANIC will be discontinued from sale directly by theory11 on May 3rd at 11:00pm EST. After that time, you may still be able to purchase PANIC from those trusted retailers and third parties that still have some in stock for a period of time, but it will no longer be sold or manufactured by theory11.

And because of that, we encourage everyone to stock up now if you do not yet own the Panic DVD - or need an additional set (or sets) of gimmicks. If you are not able to purchase within that time, you still will be able to purchase from one of our trusted retailers while their supplies last, but the DVD will not longer be sold (retail or to any retailers) by theory11 after May 3rd.

It does sadden us to see such a great product go, but at the same time we understand and respect the wishes of Aaron and guidelines set forth by the USPCC to protect their trademarks, designs, and intellectual property.

As our original contractual term for PANIC with Aaron is coming to a close, the future of the item is entirely in his hands. It's a brilliant effect, so I certainly hope it will live on in some form or another, and we were honored to produce this with AF as one of our flagship items on launch of theory11 on '07. Cheers to that. Cheers to that.

In the meantime, the clock is ticking on this one - about 72 hours from right now.

Yeah, I don't exactly have the time to gather up the money for the DVD and extra gimmicks...I wish we would have been notified sooner. :(

That's too bad! Panic was by far my favorite release from Theory11, and I strongly feel it is one of the most ingenious gimmicks ever developed. At least it will be far more valuable now that it will be more rare.

Bayme,

Have the ruled changed "with regard to modification of US Playing Card trademarked back designs"?
Isn't there a lot of modification in the magic industry?
Curious as to why the change.

Their rules have changed, and USPCC has become much more stringent on their allowance of third parties to modify their trademarked back designs. In truth, you kind of have to respect that desire - as it is their intellectual property and they deserve to protect it.

So there is no way of producing the gimmicks with another playing card manufacturing company? I own the trick and the gimmick could have a chance of passing as a separate playing card design and bypass copyright laws.

I guess we'll wait and see.

I never picked this up but have heard nothing but great things about it. Definitely an impressive effect.

People, people, do not be saddened! Look at it like this: Soon, only a few of you will be performing this and no one can buy it and do it JUST because they saw YOU do it.

I wasn't planning on buying PANIC, I always just had it in the back of my mind. This has convinced me to purchase it.

Also, what does this mean for my beloved Centurions? Will they no longer be printed?

Good question.

I think we need some additional clarification regarding just how limited the USPCC has restricted modification to the back design. Maybe the USPCC would agree to issue a license?

JB, feel free to chime in again.
