Our past few 1-ON-1 SESSIONS have covered topics solely pertaining to card technique. This week, we wanted to stray away from this 'pasteboard path' and dive into more general close-up magic; that is, effects that don't require the use of coins or playing cards (which we see all too commonly in the art of magic).

Too often, those just starting out in magic place their main focus on the method behind a particular trick, as opposed to how the effect looks to an audience. Although some of the following recommendations may require minor setups, they're all extremely simple and leave your spectators with a feeling of true astonishment - which is what we should all strive to do in each performance. A few recommendations, as chosen by our staff and artists:

: : THE GYPSY THREAD / / EASY / / $4.95
Award winning magician Dan Sperry teaches the classic Gypsy Thread effect. An ordinary length of thread is broken into several smaller segments. Instantly, under impossible conditions - and in a completely fair manner - the pieces are restored back to their original state. The thread is restored.

: : REDLINE / / EASY / / $6.95
Dan Hauss makes his theory11 debut with REDLINE. A real Chapstick is shown all the way around, and the cap is removed and held in your left hand. In the blink of an eye - literally - the cap is back on the Chapstick. Two versions of the effect are taught in intricate detail on the streets of New York City.

: : COOKIE CUTTER / / EASY / / $9.95
Dan Sperry presents his delicious take on the classic Russian Roulette routine. A razor blade is placed in one of four Oreo cookies chosen by a spectator. With your back turned, the cookies are mixed, and in a twisted display of clairvoyance you are able to accurately determine which cookie the blade resides in.

Time tested by Dan for safety and simplicity, but strictly intended for those over the age of 18, only. Don't want to use blades? No problem - Cookie Cutter can be performed with anything - a coin or even a torn corner inside the cookie as a card revelation.

For those wishing to purchase all of the above, we've setup a special promotion. Order all three videos and receive a 20% discount for this week ONLY.

Be sure to check out last week's 1-ON-1 SESSIONS - Cardistry : The Basics - and check back next Tuesday at 11:00am EST for another edition. See you then!

when r u gonna start putting real 1 on 1s??

What exactly do you mean? theory11 has put out numerous 1-on-1's. New ones posted almost every week (there has been a few exceptions recently) aside from the release of a larger project like Static or Symphony.

These posts are just to familiarize people who might not know much about theory11 and the 1-on-1 section or for people who want to check out a new genre of magic (like this post entails) for a discounted price.

The only one I own is Redline. I'm thinking of purchasing Gypsy Thread, and I really want Cookie Cutter, but I'm not 18 :(

New 1-on-1's are posted nearly every Friday. If they are not released it is due to the fact a larger release was put out that week (IE Static, Symphony) or because they were simply lacking time to produce one worthy of being put on the site.
