Unexpected Performance

Hey everybody,

So, today was pretty exciting, I had to go to a local elementary school to get some observation hours to be able to pass my summer education class. So I finally get to the school and watch these kids for about two hours until they get a break and got to do whatever they wanted. Me and my friend were there observing together and I happened to tell her I was a magician. Some kids were playing cards (some game called Trash) and I walked over and started interacting with them. The cards they were playing with were pretty horrible, so I asked one of them if they'd like to teach me how to play and I would play with them. So I took out my deck and started playing this card game, when this friend I was talking about came up and asked me to do a trick. So I did Doc Daley's Last Trick, followed by Twisting The Aces.

After I finished Twisting the Aces, about 10 more kids came up asking for more magic. So I did another effect, and MORE kids came up. I was slowly being backed into a corner by a mob of kids haha. I proceeded to do a whole hours worth of card magic with my one deck that I had brought. I was interacting with the kids and teachers, making sure everyone was having a great time.
After I finally finished, kids just came up telling me how much fun they had, and how awesome the magic was.

There were a few things I learned today.

1. Always look for opportunities to perform, they can come from anywhere.

2. Always make sure everyone is having fun, and doesn't feel left out.

3. Love what you do :D

Umm interesting ... small kids are also good specs. to perform to. If you perform for people, lets say, older than 14 years old, they react depending on the type of personality they create outside their house. A shy kid would just smile, trying to hide the true sense of wonder that he feels, others would go hysterical and others would just act as if they were not fooled at all, while they really trying to find out how u did it. Thats why kids are good specs., it's because they are so innocent and don't really care what others think of them ... so they would always bring out what they truly feel inside ...

That is awesome. I know what it feels like to have a mob of kids around you. I am in high school and the kids at the next door elementary school love the magic, they call me "magic guy" though I am a girl. Laugh out Loud.

I loved your story. We should PM some time.

That is awesome.I actually feel embarrassed when people mob me as I am used to '1 on 1' magic. There was even an eldery who dropped his walking stick when I did Clipshift and I actually felt bad for him but still haha ! I usually perform magic to my friends while I am in the bus to basically reduce the 1 hour bus journey to a mere 5 minute one.Whatever that is , the feeling of making 20 over people have a feeling that comes only once in a while is priceless.

Nice job Robert. Sometimes the best magic is the unexpected times that we are called upon to perform because it really lets you just kick back and go with the flow.
Thanks for sharing.
