Hello,

I have been doing close-up magic for almost two years now, and I recently stumbled across this site. I would love it if someone could point out to me the etiquette around here, as I would rather be told wrong BEFORE the offense then afterword. I don't know the general experience level of most of the members, so I'm rather intimidated. Any tips? Thanks for allowing me to be a part of such a great forum.

Hey and welcome to Theory11. I'm sure you'll have a great time here.
You can find the forum rules here. As long as you think before you speak, listen to advice and use the search function, you'll be fine here.

Welcome!

Don't be intimidated, the skill around here ranges from non-existent (though they think they have skill) all the way to established pro's. Almost every member will be helpful if you have any questions.

A few tips:
Always use the search feature before you ask about something well known. There are tons of topics that have been covered before with information way beyond what you need. If you can't find anything go ahead and ask, it can't hurt, and don't let anyone tell you that you're wrong to do so.

Also, read the forum rules, they cover the do's and do not's pretty well.

Feel free to PM me with any questions, I'm not the most knowledgeable guy here, but am always willing to try and help.

What kind of magic do you like to do? Close-up has so many different branches, do you mainly do cards? or coins? or well...anything else :)

Thanks guys for the warm welcome, I do mostly card stuff, but I have been delving a little deeper into Coin Magic.

I do love sleight of hand, But I am not the best.(Who is?) lol.

I have "invented" several tricks, Which I hope to post vids of later, including cards and coins. I make most of my magic props, as I am 15 and my only source of income is the occasional show. But, making magic props has taught me alot.

Look back on a lot of old threads and see if you can't find some good advice from them.

Some great guys are Praetoritevong, Morgician, Steerpike (if not easily offended), Visualartist, D ICE R, William Draven, and Romeo Sierra. A few other guys I probably haven't mentioned but have contributed in their own way.

You will find what you need to really be an entertainer and not just another card magician.

Welcome to the forums. i'll agree with everything said above and add a few names to the list of those to listen to. For Coin magic True2Coins and ScottBaird are both knowledgeable and great resources and if you ever need to get a hold of a magician talk to Nikki, that girl knows everybody haha.

your off to a great start, this was a suprising introduction showing respect for the forum and a desire to understand and make educated posts. Welcome again and see you around.

Yes I agree with you Sherlock. Also you forgot to mention your post?

Well welcome to Theory 11.

Welcome! Others above me hit the main points really well. Read what they said and DO NOT feel intimidated!

The search button that many mentioned will present you 90% of your answers.
Here's where it is. (picture dedicated to Gus)

Use that for each and every thing you could imagine wanting to find.

You can always shoot me a PM (personal Message) if you have any more questions that I might be able to answer!

All the best,

Welcome to the site, enjoy your stay! Hope you learn something new, and help contribute to our growing community here. I may not always be the most useful person to run into, but if you have any questions ask. If I can't answer it, I'll at the least try to point you in the general direction to get you started.

Cheers,
William Draven

Hey, welcome spades894!

I think someone's pointed you towards the rules, but basically it's more or less the general netiquette rules around here.

As far as experience level, from what I've seen I'd say that we have members with a huge variety of different experiences, but the majority will have under 5 years experience in magic and tend towards the inexperienced rather than the experienced (in an non-insulting sense).

Thanks for all the tips!

P.S. I do more than just cards and coins, (even some parlor) but that is what I always have in my pockets...

Welcome! I don't really have much to say that others haven't already, but I would like to stress one point...

DO NOT POST ABOUT THE WIRE.

If you do, I will personally send Demons 1, 2, 3, 4, and 94 to eat your soul.

Oh! I just remembered something. Don't post a picture of a kitty. Ever. There's a picture album on my profile if you want to know why.

Have a great time here bro. If you have any questions, I'm not the best person to ask. But if you just want to talk, shoot me a PM.

Good call about the kitty thing. For some wierd reason Theory11 have something against kittens. Don't know why?
