Hey guys i was reading the t11 videos compatible with macs thread. and started wondering. Well first my friend has a mac and loves it and im trying to convince my parents to get one now right now and for the last well ever we have had a windows type computer and think its pretty good. Now what makes macs better well first off my brother says there "retard proof" and says its only good if your like a graphic designer. And im not sure how i feel i always thought they were cool and T11 seems to be madly in love with them. So my question is what makes them so fantastic. Between all of the macs, mac books, apple all of it. I need reasons to convince my parents and myself why it is better and not be swayed by my brother saying macs are only good if your a graphic designer or an old person who doesn't no there way around a computer. Which basically means you cant screw up and its simplified is this true. Any help and explanation would be greatly appreciated. O and sorry this is off topic but umm we don't have an off topic thread. And who better to ask then T11 AKA mac addicts. lol

Thanks
Adam

P.S. Typed in a rush so if punctuation isn't perfect sorry.

I happen to be a Mac addict myself, although I originally got one because I was required to have a Macbook Pro for school.

First off, they're much, much more reliable than PCs. They hardly ever crash, and when they do, nothing ever goes wrong, it's just a simple reboot or force quitting a locked program.

One of my favorite things about Mac is the simplicity of it. Your desktop doesn't get cluttered with shortcuts, you don't have to wade through unneccesary menus, and you don't see anything you need to see. FOR EXAMPLE, in Windows, to find a program you go to the start menu, then the programs folder, then you find the program in the big list of subfolders and expand it. Sometimes the subfolder is the name of the company that made the program, sometimes it's the name of the program. In Mac OS the applications folder is just a list of programs that you have on your computer, and double clicking one will open it. There's no complicated system of subfolders.

Another thing that you don't ever have to see are the program files. Even though I wasn't doing anything particularly advanced in Windows, I'd find myself hunting around the Program Files folder for something every once and a while. After you encounter 15 subfolders with nothing but .dll files you get a little frustrated. All of those things are hidden on a mac, but still available to you if you choose to access them.

The reason I was required to get a mac in the first place is for the computer's power. The graphics card on my Macbook Pro is fantastic, and the processor is very fast. I have Boot Camp installed so that I can use Windows XP as well, to play games, and my Mac runs Windows XP better than a brand new HP desktop. So if you need to run Windows you can.

The graphic designer aspect of it comes from the fact that all of the industry standard software (Adobe Creative Suite) works extremely well on Mac. Also, Apple makes the industry standard movie editing software, Final Cut Pro, which is available only for Mac.

I really sound like an advertisement, but I do have a passion for my little apple, haha. I know this thread is going to get locked but I know you wanted your questions answered...feel free to PM me if you have any other questions about it.

actually passivepoke said it all, but Macs are perfect so simple, so perfect, tell your parents to use them for 1 day and they'll love them more than you xD

I use both. I was using Windows Vista about four years ago, back when it was called Mac OS X.

But ever since Apple went to an Intel-based chip, there is really no difference between a Mac and PC, except you'll pay much more for a Mac.

Remember that Macs are entire machines through and through. Upgrading them is not always easy. Additionally, most video games are not made for the Mac OS. Adding stuff to a PC is easy. And as long as you stay away from Vista, a PC will leave you with enough money to buy that brick of Jerry's Nuggets you always wanted.

Hey Guys,

As this is not the best forum to discuss personal technological preferences (read that: Mac or PC), I'll close this thread so that we can return to the magicness. But for the record: Mac Mac Mac Mac.

Love,

Katie
