You're in for one of those "I forgot how good this felt; darn, i love magic" stories.

As I've mentioned before, I've been practicing the art of illusion somewhat sporadically over the past seven years. I started getting "into it" again about a month and a half ago (and also, as a side note, picked up flourishing. yessss, i'm a baby); just practiced some old tricks and touched up on my own creations.

I recently came into contact with an ex co-worker who also performs magic; he moved out of town for some time, but moved back (crazy- I'd choose sonora over fresno any day). We decided to get together for a session, and I suggested a library that was not far from his place of work (though a tad out of the way for me... cough, gas money? :P).

We got there, sat down at one of the tables with our closeup pads out and set out to exchange thoughts, useful information, and stories. We were soon approached by the security guard, who proceeded to say "So you can handle those cards pretty well, huh?" (I was doing a few flourishes- simple compared to the ones you do, mind you). I look at my friend, Kyle, and chuckled.

Soon we had all but three of the library patrons (and employees) surrounding us, and we traded off doing sets (mini-routines). It went on for a little under 2 hours- some people going, only to be filled in by new people. I handed out over 12 souvenir cards (and some even asked for my autograph)!

All in all... We got absolutely no work accomplished but had a good time. It's been a spell since I've performed for people like that, and I have to admit I kind of forgot how happy it made me to make the spectators smile like that. It was a great day :)

That's awesome! I'm glad you had a great day! Most people want to see magic and don't even know it. ;) Well, I'm glad you and your friend had an awesome time.

Hey man awsome! And while we are on the subject let me tell you my most awsome story of performing forever.

Well, I was at the mall 2 days ago. and I was sitting on a bench just doing some simple flourishes and a few color changes. Well, this kid wanders over to me, he was about 9. He says " Hey. Are yo a magician."

I said,"I sure am."

"Cool" he said. Thn his parents came up behind him and they were like "Oh I'm really sorry. Did he bother you?"

An I said " No not at all ma'am. He was just asking if i was a magician." She kind of looked at him kind of strangely and then I said, "He saw me playing with the cards. and Yes. i am a magician. do you want to see a trick really quick?"

They said sure and so I performed David stone's Ghost. They all died laughing and they offered me a five dollar tip just because I tricked them so bad. I politely turned down the money and gave their son a high five. Well, they left and a security guard cam over and said, " Dude. Your F'n good at those magic tricks ."

I offered to show him one and he said okay. so I did Angle Zero from Dangerous and made the card appear inside my Ice coffee under the ice. He freaked and started talking about how I was the devil and stuff and he's freaking out. finally he kicks me out of the mall and tells me not to come back in for the rest of the day.

That is the second time I've been kicked out of the mall for doing awsome magic. and I may have gotten kicked out for the day. but, still that is the best reaction you can get.

Great story, Dylan! I've been kicked off premises for performing before, too. Hehe, maybe we should keep it simple ;)

Hey man forget simple. As long as you know that you sent them home with something to remember for the rest of their life then I'm cool with it. I say who cares if you get kicked out of places, as long as the people who witnessed your skill have gone home astonished and can't go to bed.

I'm glad both of you guys had a fantastic time. Stories like these remind us why we are magicians and why we perform: to create an experience and connection with spectators -- and, in the process, have fun along the way.

Keep up the great work and keep performing!

Cheers,
JTM

My story is nothing big but I will share.

I was at a gas station and usually do a few tricks so I took a half dollar and did some stuff with it. I was about to leave and decided to try one more thing. I mad the half dollar flip in her hand using the PK Kit and an X-Flip coin. She freaked and called me weird and had goosebumps and didn't talk to me for a while. Funny.
