A School Magic Club?

I was wondering if I should start a school magic club. I have the means to do it, but I don't know if this would be beneficial to the art or not. I don't want to start the club and have people join just to learn a few tricks. I want this to be an enriching experience to bring people with similar interests together that have a supreme respect for the art of magic. I don't know if people will take it seriously, so I'd very much appreciate your advice on the matter.

Some of the best lessons are learned in failure. If you want to put together a club, and have the ability to do so then why not take advantage of the oppertunity?

Nothing ventured nothing gained.

I'm a teacher and I would say no as I'm certain that your fears will most likely come true and it will just create problems with people within the club. Some people may learn just to learn a few tricks or maybe just want to know how tricks are done which will hinder the people in the club that are taking it seriously. Moreover, with you having some experience and knowledge in the subject, finding people that share your appreciation will be hard since you're probably on a very different level of a novice and beginner.

I would suggest you try to find people that are already interested in magic and having meet-ups every week or so and discuss what you're up to and you're ideas and your beliefs on the subject.

If only I was still in my old high school..... damn it.

Couple of people will understand what I'm talking about.

have some kind of initiation, or be like. you come, sign up, then you learn more each week you are here. you are going to have to make rules strict, and keep it a somewhat closed club.
ive thought of having one, but its much easier to find another friend who does magic and meet other magicians, if someone is willing to learn they will ask and really try.

Underground quiet type of school/club

and there must be requirements before they join, who knows, they're just there to know the secrets and spread 'em - more like what youtube has done.

If you are experienced enough in magic, you'll have willing and dedicated students who'll take it very seriously - I'll even enroll myself there.

Magic can be the tool... not the creation.

Why not focus on presentation skills, public speaking, drama, theater, Mythology, science, and physics and just use magic as a tool for teaching, or an outlet to perform once the lessons have been mastered?

Hey, I am my self opened a magic club at my school. Tricky Devil is the name of it and it's also my stage name. when you open your club, you must went through some kinda school supersiver such as ASB or so. I'm pretty sure that they will ask you to write the club's constitution. In the constitution you will list what allowing the ppl to do and stuff.

remember, magic club is not a place you will get free magic. You have to pay for it in order to learn it. This is what I said for all new member joining my club. You will too, because that is the last thing that you want your club turn into a place of producing bad magician and crime(and you know what I mean).

When I frist have the idea of opening a magic club, there are many thought went thru my mind. For instant, How am I gonna provide tricks to the new performer in the club to learn and the source where they could find more magic after they masted their beginner material? The answer is to make them buy it. I know it's sounds expensive for someone just trying out something new but hey, you get what you pay for. Explain how they will value what they pay for rather than watching it on youtube.

After the beginning phase, the learning, (the hardest part), you will have some ppl in your club have some idea what they are doing. Take them out and let them perform to other kids. Its might not be pretty the frist time, but they will learn for their mistake. Here is the link of my example performance for my club members when I took them out and demonstrate showmanship and misdirection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mm1w26GqlVU

after you have your first group of people know what they doing now. Then you will turn your club as a place that will improve their skill, such as discussing a difficult move, cardistry, etc.

When new ppl join the club after this process, have the older member do the same thing to the new member as you did to them back in the day. This process goes on and on like a tradition.

If you have any more question, feel free to pm me. I have been doing this long enough to know how to help you out.

Need not create an official school club, imo.

There is, in my school, a group of magicians, underground, only magicians know that group exists; and the members are tested before they actually join. They just don't test their sleight skills, they also keep an eye on the applicants wether or not they really are dedicated in magic.

Having a school club ruins the underground magic community effect, and turns it into a tricksters paradise, imo.
