Well for a little bit, I've been working on this deck color change. So I made a little video not really showing the whole big presentation, this video is mainly a preview video and just me testing it and seeing how it plays out, tell me what you guys think!
So this is Color Blind

Eh, I didn't really like it. If the method is what I think, its not original. Plus, the name is already taken. Not that there hasn't ever been tricks with the same name, but its nice to have an original name. http://www.penguinmagic.com/specialorderproduct.php?ID=10436

well I wasn't exactly looking for an original trick that no one in the world as created, I just wanted to create my own trick that was maybe more or less good.

I didn't know that the name was already taken....oh well, I really like the name. :p

It always gives you a good feeling when you can derive a trick with no major help from anyone, it's good to see people trying to create effects. it does NOT matter if it's original at this early of a stage, as long as you have the mind that wants to create.

The way you handled the cards. The 'magical' tablecloth. The bad ClipShift, Pass, Winter Change. Sorry, but that was crappy

Like I said, it isn't polished nor is the trick completed. Like I said, this was a more "test" to see how people react and how overall it would look.

Now as explained on in the video comments, I did that pass bad on purpose, because you have to realize that laymen don't really know that much about passes, so, in my opinion, the audience is more amazed by seeing the change instead of it magically appearing. And how in the world could you say that clipshift was bad, I mean it's not the best in the world, but it wasn't terrible at all.

Anyways, you have to remember to look through the mind of a layman, not as a magician as this was not made for a magician fooler nor is most tricks.

Man they're just ragging on you. Whenever someone produces or attempts to produce something that didn't come from an established artist it's always 'crap' according to this forum.

Personally I thought it was alright, and with some polishing and some stuff added it'll be a nice routine. Sure may not be that original, I mean it's a deck color change routine, but it's not the point. You put together a collection of slights and produced a routine. I say, well done, it's more than most nay sayers will do.

The bottom line is, you don't have to convince the forum here, you have to convince live audiences with it. Polish it, practice it, and then spank it in front of a live audience. I think you'll get great reactions to it. I honestly couldn't tell if your clip shift was good or not, lol, because there was so much shenanigans. I couldn't see the shift, but then I couldn't see your hand either because your whole arm became a blur because you shaked it so much, so I wouldn't take it too seriously if people say its bad, lol.

The pass was very obvious, but not because I could see you transposing both the packets, but because I could see the card coming in. Your right though, no lay person is going to think, "That's a PASS!" They're going to be like, "Where the heck did that card come from."

Handling isn't important, to a lay person. A bit of misdirection, like doing that mid sentence, they'll catch some movement in the corner of their eye and see the deck changed. A good magician can flash every trick they perform, but people don't notice....or catch them. Why? Misdirection, lol.

established artists tend to have less crappier tricks than most of the deluded hopefuls here.

I do however, agree strongly with your point on convincing the live audiences and not internet forums. You do magic for the audience. Not to show off to other magicians.

I think we did just that, lol. It has nothing to do with established artists effects being better. It's how much time and effort and thought went into the effect in the first place.

James, just out of curiosity, how long have you been working on this? Weeks, Months, Years?

Well I've been working on the right method for about 7 months. Most of them didn't really work for me. Once I got the right method for me which was about 4 weeks ago, I started working and teaking the handling into a whole presentation and effect.

Now see, even though i'm not a big fan of it right now, I think that with a lot more time, this could be something. It just doesn't seem there yet. But, like you said:

this video is mainly a preview video and just me testing it and seeing how it plays out

So, play around with the details more. Work on The Clipshift some more so you don't have to shake that much. Remember, quick and visual (for the clipshift). Come back after you've put more work into it, and i'm sure we'll all try to give you our best advice and simply let you know what we think about it.
