Hey everyone! I'm contemplating a purchase to fit these criteria:

-Gimmicked/impromptu
-Very hard hitting
-Visual is a plus
-Mostly cards
-Around $25 USD or so

I've come up with some combinations I think are good. They are as follows:

DAN AND DAVE
The Queens
Smooth Operations

THEORY11
Ishkabibble Sandwich
Crunk
Slipshot

DANIELMADISON
Two
OR
Three
OR
Play
(If I get 2 or 3, I'm probably buying the Swing Change!)

So if I can get any suggestions that'd be great. Thanks in advance! :D

I highly recommend Saw by Sean Fields...it's visual, 'impromptu', little set-up, hard hitting and perfect for Halloween...

Does it come in download form? If not I can't get it.

Ian

Yes, I believe so...on his site, you can check it out here

Also, the required item will only cost you around 2$ and Sean also teaches you 3 other effects for only $19.95

Cards... Daniel Madison has both Burn and Wrath which I would assume could make halloween effects. I have both pdfs and they're good.

Hmm...Wrath I won't go with since it's heavily gimmicked. And probably not Burn because I don't play with lighters.

Guys, I should've been more specific: It's the stuff on the list I'm deciding between, really. I guess you guys took the part where I asked for stuff not there and just ran with it. But the recommendations have been checked. Feel free to say anything else I missed you feel would be good, but try to consider the list, as no one's mentioned anything from my list yet.

Thanks!

Personally, I'll just say that I'm not at all a fan of D&D magic. In my opinion, it's mostly visual eye candy created by magicians for magicians. I dislike their construction of magic, and personally feel that you can do a LOT better.

Well Smooth Operations isn't exactly D&D. But would you care to elaborate on that? The other choices I have look good, too...aHHH! So Frustrating!

That's true, sorry I overlooked that. I definitely understand the problem with having to choose between several tempting options!

Well, in brief: I feel that the D&D style of magic leaves too little room for proper presentation, and due to their emphasis on quick tricks, have little chance of leaving a lasting impact. See my essay in Draven's forum contest for an extended version of this point - I like to aim high with my magic, and I think that getting people screaming and yelling is quite easy to do, and it's the most superficial reaction. Powerful magic occurs when emotions are moved - then, a person's thinking can be changed. D&D magic in my opinion leans too far towards quick tricks and screaming, and in doing so misses the beauty and the full potential of magic. I understand that they have a visual style - but visual has a time and place. Visual is good as an opener. An entire repertoire containing only visual though is like performing on stage with an hour of card tricks. Visual is important - it's particularly difficult to achieve in mentalism - but it needs to be used intelligently.

True. Nice post. Do you think any other products I mentioned could be used to achieve that effect? I'm always looking to affect my audience on a deeper level. I just try to make that happen in the most outstanding way possible.
